Position Overview

The School of Business at the University of Kansas is conducting a search for a tenure-track faculty position in Operations and Supply-Chain Management for the 2027-28 academic year. The appointment will be made at rank of Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, tenure-track position beginning August 18, 2027.

Successful candidates will be expected to continue to contribute to the advancement of knowledge through high quality publications in leading academic journals, to teach courses with rigorous academic content at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level, and to engage in service and outreach activities that advance the educational mission of the School of Business and the University of Kansas. While all areas of operations/supply chain will be considered, emphasis might be given to the emerging topics of blockchain, digital transformation of supply chain, and supply-chain analytics.

The University of Kansas School of Business offers undergraduate, master’s (full-time and online) and doctoral programs. In recent years, the School has experienced remarkable growth, expanding academic offerings with student enrollment approaching 5,000 students. The School of Business is located on KU’s main campus in Lawrence in Capitol Federal Hall, a modern instructional facility with advanced classrooms, offices, and student resources. Lawrence is located 35 miles west of Kansas City in the Kansas River valley. This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement between The University of Kansas and United Academics, that UAKU is the exclusive representative for the bargaining unit, and that it is their right to be a member or not be a member of a union without fear of personal or professional repercussions.

Job Description

40% Research:

  • Develop and sustain an active program of scholarly research in operations management and related fields, leading to publications in high-quality academic journals, scholarly presentations, and other research contributions


40% Teaching:

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in operations management and related disciplines. Contribute to student learning through instruction, mentoring, advising, curriculum development, and other educational activities that support the mission of the School of Business.


20% Service:

  • Engage in service activities that support the area, school, university, profession, and broader community. Contribute through committee participation, professional engagement, outreach, student support activities, and other service contributions appropriate to rank and expertise.


Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in a discipline directly related to Operations and Supply Chain Management. (must be earned by August 18, 2027).
  • Demonstrated (or evidence of high potential for) scholarship excellence as shown through publications in leading academic journals in operations management and/or business analytics, and promising research projects and papers targeted to leading journals.
  • Demonstrated (or evidence of high potential for) teaching excellence in supply-chain management and/or business analytics with a special focus on contemporary and emerging topics.


This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
