Position Overview

The School of Architecture & Design at the University of Kansas invites applications for a tenure track or tenured position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Architecture, with an emphasis in Computational/Parametric Design and Advanced Manufacturing Technologies.

The appointment is expected to begin in the spring semester of 2027.

Architects are increasingly expected to integrate advanced computational design technologies, digital workflows, and research into the design, coordination, fabrication, and performance of buildings. This expertise spans the integration of building systems and programs through computational and parametric design, artificial intelligence, building performance analysis, advanced digital fabrication, and industrialized construction processes.

This position will play a central role in developing and implementing coursework across the professional and graduate curricula in these areas, fostering externally funded research in computational design, digital fabrication, and emerging design technologies, and coordinating professional and academic programs that support certifications and advanced credentials in automated design processes and digital practice.

The successful candidate should demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas: Computational and parametric design, advanced digital fabrication, industrialized construction, building performance technologies, artificial intelligence integration in architectural design, or related emerging digital technologies that advance architectural practice and research.

Job Description

Allocation of Effort:

Teaching, 40 percent

The typical teaching expectation for Architecture faculty is two 6-credit upper-level architectural design studios and one 3-credit lecture or seminar per year. The successful candidate will also meet departmental expectations for student advising.

Research, 40 percent

Conduct research, creative work, and/or professional work focusses on advanced manufacturing technologies, and related areas of digital practice. Disseminate this work through peer-reviewed publications, exhibitions, conferences, and/or other appropriate scholarly and professional venues. Seek external funding to support a focused research agenda.

Service, 20 percent

Serve the department, university, state, and profession, primarily through committees, boards, and related forms of professional and institutional service.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications for Both Assistant and Associate Professor Candidates

  • Demonstrated record of research, creative work, and/or professional work that demonstrates expertise in computational/parametric design, advanced manufacturing processes and related areas of digital practice.
  • Significant professional experience in architectural practice plus a master’s degree in architecture, or a PhD in architecture with an emphasis in computational/parametric design and advanced manufacturing processes.
  • A professional degree in architecture, NAAB-accredited or equivalent.


Required Qualifications For Associate Professor Candidates Only

  • Established record of teaching consistent with the department’s standards for promotion to the rank of Associate Professor of Architecture.
  • Established record of research, creative work, and/or professional work consistent with the department’s standards for promotion to the rank of Associate Professor of Architecture.
