This position is responsible for taking a hands-on role in operating and maintaining the UGA Poultry Research Complex; providing care for research animals in accordance with UGA Animal Use and Care guidelines; preparing animal rooms for experiments, assisting scientists with research as assigned, cleaning rooms, and facilities following experiments; providing maintenance and repair of facilities and grounds; assisting with feed manufacturing and other duties as assigned by their supervisor(s).
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a background investigation including, a criminal background check demonstrating your eligibility for employment with the University of Georgia; confirmation of the credentials and employment history reflected in your application materials (including reference checks) as they relate to the job-based requirements of the position applied for; and, if applicable, a satisfactory credit check. - Caring for research animals.
- Feeding, watering, temperature monitoring.
- Assisting scientists with research projects, weighing animals, collecting data.
- General research farm maintenance.
- Cleaning research facilities (including the hatchery) after use and preparing them for new experiments.
- Maintenance of equipment.
- Working with researchers.
- Keeping an inventory of materials, feed and supplies.
- Assisting undergraduate and graduate students.
- Maintenance of feed mill facility and equipment; ensuring facility safety, cleanliness, functionality, and mixed feed accuracy.

- Understanding of animal research, poultry husbandry, animal care, and general agriculture practices.
- Operate, or learn to operate, agricultural equipment.
- Repeatedly lift 50 pounds.
- Work involves preparing, moving, and dispensing feed in 50 pound bags. This position does heavy manual labor on occasion.
- Driving to perform job related duties.
