Classification Title Lab Tech-Life Science II FLSA Non-Exempt FTE 1.0 Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
Competitive candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, ecology, or a closely related discipline. Preferred qualifications include: wet lab experience, ability to work independently, proficiency with Microsoft Excel, and procurement experience. No prior experience with specific lab equipment is required.
Position Summary
The lab manager will assist in research examining how soil microbial processes control the exchange of C and N between soils, plants, and the atmosphere. Specifically, they will be responsible for ordering equipment and supplies, maintaining a safe and productive working environment, developing standard operating procedures, and training new researchers. The lab manager will also assist in conducting basic field and laboratory research, including collecting soil samples in the field, operating a portable trace gas analyzer, and processing soil samples in the laboratory.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
This position may call for occasional field work. The candidate should be able to hike for 1 mile with a 30-pound backpack.
