What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Faculty - School of Allied Health position at The University of Akron?
Responsibilities
The University of Akron’s School of Allied Health seeks to hire part-time faculty to teach a variety of clinical and didactic related courses, including but not limited to Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, Pathology and Pharmacology. The faculty members may also assist in course development, accreditation, student advising, and research related to the school.
INSTRUCTIONAL DUTIES
Knowledge of theory, content and applications of human anatomy, human physiology, and/or pathophysiology. Basic knowledge of internet research techniques and methods required. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Skill In: 1) providing quality instruction (developmental, applied learning) and support to a student body; 2) instructional planning and presentation, incorporating critical thinking and general education outcomes in the discipline’s course content; and 3) effective communication with peers, in particular the course and departmental leadership teams. Ability to: 1) demonstrate teaching strategies that focus on student-centered learning; 2) direct and assist students during active laboratory experiences; 3) explore and incorporate learning technologies and use of multi-media technology to enhance student learning; 4) perform student learning outcomes assessments; 5) demonstrate a commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies that aid student success and retention and reflect industry trends; and 6) adapt to multi-campus organizational work environments as well as changes in the discipline
Required/ Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree or higher from an accredited academic institution. A Master’s degree in either a health related profession or biological sciences OR a professional degree (M.D., D.O., D.C. DPT) awarded by nationally accredited institutions, along with the corresponding credentials and licensure may be accepted as fulfilling the degree requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of 2 years prior teaching experience, experience teaching face to face and/or online courses. Experience using an online course management and online course instruction techniques and methods or any combination.

- Prepares and delivers learning instruction and materials to ensure successful student outcomes.
- Objectively assess students for academic performance
- Effectively organize and present subject matter to students
- Supplement approved student material as necessary
- Ensure security of assessment tools and confidential documentation
- Effectively utilize and monitor the learning management systems
- Ensure classes are conducted for the required length of time
- Be available to students who need additional help or have questions
- Maintain student grades and records
