Position Summary

The Counselor is responsible for providing counseling services, short-term therapy, consultation, evaluation, programming, and crisis intervention services for the Bryant community. This is a full-time, 10-month position. The successful candidate will participate in the Office of Counseling Services' rotating on-call schedule, serving as the backup on-call clinician for behavioral health emergencies on a 10-day rotation. Due to the nature of this position, occasional non-traditional work hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends, are required to support university programming, provide clinical consultation, and respond to psychiatric and behavioral health emergencies as either the primary or backup on-call clinician.

Principal Accountabilities
  1. Provide individual counseling, short-term therapy, crisis intervention, referrals, and comprehensive clinical assessment and risk evaluation services to Bryant University students while managing a significant clinical caseload throughout the academic year.
  2. Provide consultation and support to students, faculty, staff, families, and campus partners regarding student mental health concerns and appropriate interventions.
  3. Develop, coordinate, and facilitate outreach, prevention, psychoeducational programs, and support groups that promote student well-being in collaboration with campus partners and student organizations.
  4. Represent the Office of Counseling Services at orientation programs, open houses, admissions events, and other university programs, including occasional evening and weekend commitments.
  5. Participate in the Counseling Services on-call rotation by serving as the backup on-call clinician for behavioral health emergencies in accordance with the department's rotating (10 day) coverage schedule.
  6. Deliver workshops, classroom presentations, consultations, and mental health training for students, faculty, staff, and campus organizations to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and promote effective help-seeking behaviors.
  7. Coordinate, implement, and evaluate the Student Support Network (SSN) Peer Support Training Program, including recruitment, training, supervision, and collaboration with campus partners to strengthen peer support initiatives.
  8. Collaborate with OCS leadership and colleagues to identify, prioritize, and respond to emerging departmental needs and unforeseen responsibilities in support of the Office of Counseling Services' mission and student success.

QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING:

This position is best served by an individual with:
  • Graduate degree in counseling or psychology.
  • Independently licensed in RI (LMHC or LICSW) or licensed eligible within six -twelve months of appointment.
  • Experience with college mental health services on a college campus; expertise in the areas of suicide risk assessment, anxiety, depression, sexuality, identity work, substance abuse, and eating disorders preferred.
  • Excellent skills in psychological evaluation and diagnosis are also required.
