Position Summary
The Director of Strategic Marketing is a strategy-first leader responsible for positioning Townsend as the premier, safety-led partner for utilities, co-ops, pipeline operators, and Departments of Transportation (DOTs). Reporting directly to the CEO, this role will architect and execute a commercial marketing system that generates measurable demand, supports large multi-year bids, and enhances Townsend’s reputation in integrated vegetation management (IVM), storm readiness, and ESG-aligned habitat stewardship.
This position requires strong business acumen and a deep understanding of how operational businesses generate profit, with a focus on evaluating and expanding specialized service lines to support continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Brand & Market Positioning
- Define and elevate Townsend’s brand across all markets and subsidiaries
- Establish a clear, differentiated value proposition for utilities, co-ops, pipeline operators, and DOTs
- Ensure consistency in messaging across regions while allowing for local market nuance
- Lead brand integration efforts across acquisitions while preserving operational strengths
Strategic Growth Enablement
- Partner with Sales and Operations to support key pursuits, bids, and customer expansion
- Translate market insights into actionable strategies that drive revenue and margin
- Develop targeted campaigns that position Townsend as the partner of choice in priority markets
- Support geographic expansion and entry into new customer segments
Customer & Market Intelligence
- Build a deep understanding of customer needs, procurement dynamics, and the competitive landscape
- Identify trends across infrastructure sectors and translate them into strategic positioning
- Elevate Townsend’s presence through thought leadership and industry engagement
Marketing Infrastructure & Execution
- Lead the development of scalable marketing processes, tools, and systems
- Oversee digital presence, content strategy, and external communications
- Establish and track metrics to measure brand impact, pipeline contribution, and ROI
- Build and lead a high-performing marketing function as the business grows

Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 10 years of experience in strategic marketing, brand leadership, or commercial strategy
- Experience in infrastructure, utilities, industrial services, or a related field preferred
- Proven ability to translate business strategy into market positioning and growth initiatives
- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence across functions
- Experience building or scaling marketing capabilities in a growth-oriented environment
- Data-driven mindset with a focus on measurable outcomes
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Meet all physical requirements of the position.
- Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, required by DOT regulations.
- 18 years of age or older, or 21 if CDL is required.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
This role is based in an office environment with occasional remote work flexibility. The position may require
limited travel.
