*Safety Sensitive Position
Essential Functions
- Manually operates a variety of grass mowers (including push, walk-behind, trim and zero-turn mowers), weed trimming devices, edgers, blowers, chippers, and other designated landscape equipment to maintain parks and open space property.
- Responsible for the general maintenance and preparation of all assigned equipment. Ensures that the equipment cooling and other systems are working at all times. Refills fuel and oil daily, cleans equipment daily, and reports equipment problems or failures to Crew Leader immediately.
- Performs basic preventive maintenance on equipment as directed by the Crew Leader.
- Returns equipment to designated location at the maintenance facility and cleans the maintenance areas.
- Practices all safety procedures and uses all required safety equipment as trained and instructed, both for personal safety and for the safety of other employees and the public.
- Physically performs manual labor relating to maintenance and debris removal/cleanup of parks and open space areas, including the use of tools and equipment such as shovels, rakes, shears, trimming cutters, small hand tools, picks, wheel barrows, etc.
- Works daily business hours in accordance with assigned work schedule, including overtime as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
- Knowledge of lawn care and landscaping equipment.
- Possess good verbal communication skills and are willing to follow instructions as given.
- Ability to work independently and stay on-task as well as in concert with other team members in meeting set goals.
- Ability to perform all physical tasks associated with park and open space maintenance, with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to (50) pounds vertically for at least 36 inches, walking and standing for extended periods, climbing, bending, twisting, crouching, kneeling, crawling, reaching, grasping, carrying, pushing/pulling.
- Ability to work in a wide range of extreme outdoor environmental and physical conditions, including extreme heat, wet/humid conditions, and elevated noise levels.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license for class vehicle subject to operation and maintain a good driving record.
- Must be able to successfully pass a physical examination and drug screen.

The employee constantly is required to listen and see. Frequently, s/he is required to balance, carry, climb, drive a vehicle, lift up to 50 pounds, sit, stand, talk, and/or walk. Occasionally, s/he is required to crawl, kneel, pull, push, smell, and/or stoop. In rare instances, s/he must run. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
