ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking a motivated Transportation/Roadway Engineer I to join our Transportation Division in Charleston, WV. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to develop their skills on a wide variety of roadway and transportation projects for public and private clients.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop knowledge of civil engineering design practices and an understanding of the WVDOH project development process
- Perform essential roadway design functions including setting geometric alignments, hydrology and hydraulics for drainage design, 3D roadway modeling, pavement design, erosion control plans, maintenance of traffic, and right-of-way
- Prepare project quantity calculations and construction cost estimates
- Perform and check project design calculations under the direction of a senior engineer
- Develop professionally through mentorship from experienced engineers
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- BS or MS from an ABET accredited university in Civil Engineering
- 0–5 years of experience in transportation or roadway engineering
- Ability to obtain EIT certification required; PE licensure in WV strongly encouraged and supported
- Knowledge of or exposure to WVDOH project development processes, AASHTO design guidance, CAD standards, and right-of-way deliverables
- Proficiency or willingness to learn OpenRoads Designer; AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and InRoads experience a plus
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Leadership and time management skills to keep projects on schedule and on budget
- Effective meeting skills for both client and public meetings
