A nonprofit organization is seeking Contract Attorneys licensed to practice in Louisiana federal courts for an ongoing remote opportunity supporting high-impact habeas and detention matters.
Details
- $100/hour
- Ongoing contract anticipated to last 5 months
- Part-time schedule: approximately 15β30 hours/week at the candidate's discretion
- Fully remote aside from any required court appearances
- Active admission to practice in one or more Louisiana federal courts
- Habeas corpus experience strongly preferred
- Immigration experience is not required
- Candidates with significant criminal defense experience are encouraged to apply, even without direct habeas experience
- File and litigate habeas corpus petitions on behalf of clients detained out of state
- Conduct emergency legal research and draft filings under tight deadlines
- Interview and counsel clients and families with sensitivity to trauma and crisis
- Coordinate with local counsel, public defenders, and advocacy groups to gather supporting documentation
- Appear in court as needed
- Maintain detailed records of case activity and communications
