Job Summary:
Water Safety Instructor teaches swim instructions to all populations including but not limited to children, adults, special needs, and seniors.
Essential Responsibilities:
Ensure the safety of the instructional learn-to-swim program.
Instruct class / lesson according to the JCC and American Red Cross standards.
Instruct class in water unless otherwise directed/approved by Aquatics Director.
Maintain accurate attendance records using provided rosters.
Complete and submit all participant evaluations as required by Aquatics Director / ARC.
Start and end class / lesson on time.
Responsible for the care and proper storage of equipment used during instruction.
Responsible to maintain ongoing communication with swim lesson client(s) and Aquatic Department staff to ensure accurate scheduling, appointment changes, cancellations, etc.
Responsible to submit redemption of lessons upon completion of lesson(s).
Responsible to accurately document and submit lesson unit entry into SYJCC payroll system.
Dressed appropriately for swim instructor role (i.e. bathing suit attire, shorts, no socks, etc.).
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Flexible with varying schedules and availability.
Education and Experience:
CPR/First Aid Training AED Certification REQUIRED
WSI Certified Preferred
Lifeguard Certification Preferred
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong customer service skills and creativity in working with adults and children.
Able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of evenings and weekends.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
