Professional Tutor - Write Place (PT)

The Write Place Tutor is responsible for one-on-one and small group instruction with students enrolled in biology courses. The tutor exhibits patience and a positive attitude in establishing an encouraging learning environment. The Professional Tutor possesses good organizational skills and is able to explain concepts to others effectively.

This is an hourly, part-time position

Qualifications

• Educational Background: Associates required, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience: One-year experience in teaching/tutoring at high school or college level preferred, with knowledge of subject matter being tutored.
• Special Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through oral, written, and interpersonal methods.

The Write Place Professional Tutor is responsible for one-on-one and small group support for student learning. Tutors will exhibit patience and a positive attitude in establishing an encouraging learning environment.

The Write Place Professional Tutor demonstratea knowledge and training in support of students in one or more academic subjects. Biology tutors specialize in general biology. Knowledge of or willingness to learn anatomy and physiology is a plus.

• Essential Functions:
• Demonstrates knowledge and competence in subject matter of specialty area.
• Provides direct assistance to students individually or in small groups.
• Supports students to develop and meet their academic goals.
• Tutors according to the techniques presented in student classes.
• Provides explanations, clarifies concepts, and demonstrates problem-solving strategies.
• Works comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Collaborates with immediate supervisor regarding tutoring best practices.
• Participates in tutor training and development sessions as required.
• Maintains and records student and usage records as needed.
• Updates tutoring materials including workshop development as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
  
  

Pay Rate

• Associates Degree: $21.00/hour
• Bachelors Degree: $23.00/hour
• Masters or Ph.D: $25.00/hour
