The Associate for Institutional Research (IR) Collaborative Services is a new full-time term-appointment position in the Office of Institutional Research and Data Analytics at SUNY System Administration in Albany, NY. This position supports the functions of the institutional research office and supports University projects, priorities, and initiatives, including but not limited to, the coordination of data collection, analysis, and evaluation strategies. The successful candidate will work with members of other SUNY System Administration functional offices as well as with SUNY campus colleagues.

The individual holding this position will take the lead role in coordinating and supporting SUNY's new IR Collaborative Services initiative. The Associate will work in close conjunction with the participating campuses as well as System IR staff members to successfully implement a highly effective and value-added collaborative services model. The individual will design and execute new sets of customizable metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the participating campuses. The individual will also take the lead role in the development of tailored labor market analyses reports as well as tailored demographic-related analyses for the participating campuses. Further, the individual will become the office's expert on the Richmond Fed Survey of Community College Outcomes initiative and have responsibility for ensuring the data for the participating campuses is pulled and compiled accurately and submitted in a timely manner. Additional collaborative service responsibilities are expected to include the development, administration, and reporting of individualized campus surveys; individualized data reports and analysis; and consultation on and assistance with addressing campus data quality issues.

The Associate for IR Collaborative Services will have strong analytical skills and will join the office well-prepared to regularly work with millions of records to produce both insightful snapshots and longitudinal reports. The individual will come with strong technical skills and will have an interest in learning new skills. The individual will have strong communication, facilitation, and project management skills. The individual will also be curious, resourceful, and self-motivated.

Duties And Responsibilities

IR Collaborative Services Specific:

  • Develop a strong collegial, collaborative, and supportive relationship with campuses participating in SUNY's new IR Collaborative Services initiative.
  • Coordinate IR collaborative service projects effectively and efficiently to deliver high-quality, actionable information for participating campuses.
  • Work closely with participating campuses to develop customized metrics and KPI reports and dashboards, using data already collected as well as potentially new data sets not currently collected.
  • Develop tailored labor market reports and analyses for participating campuses.
  • Develop tailored demographics-related reports and analyses for participating campuses.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely submission of Richmond Fed Survey of Community College Outcomes data on behalf of participating campuses.
  • Lead the development of individualized strong and robust survey instruments for participating campuses.
  • Develop survey result reports and dashboards for participating campuses.
  • Create combined and integrated data sets for the purposes of longitudinal analysis and advanced analysis.
  • Perform ad hoc data analysis and predictive analytics in conjunction with participating campuses, utilizing data already provided as well as potentially data not currently collected.
  • Document analytical procedures and methodology.
  • Prepare IR collaborative services accountability summary reports on a regular basis.
  • Co-facilitate on-going discussions on at least an annual basis of current collaborative services provided and services to be provided in the future.

General Office

  • Review detailed data submissions for participating campuses and assist in their finalization as needed to ensure a solid data foundation and understanding.
  • Serve as an office co-lead on labor market data, tools, and resources.
  • Serve as an office co-lead on demographics-related data, tools, and resources.
  • Collaborate with SUNY campus counterparts and associates from other SUNY System Administration offices, as needed and appropriate.
  • Assist in responding to ad hoc data requests for information, data, and analysis, as needed and appropriate.

Job Requirements

Required qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience working with complex, large-scale data sets.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and leading a diverse array of partners and stakeholders in a collaborative, efficient, and productive manner.
  • Demonstrated experience working with large and complex relational databases.
  • Demonstrated experience working with data definitions, data dictionaries, and data standards.
  • Demonstrated experience developing metrics and key performance indicators, preferably as they pertain to higher education.
  • Intermediate/advanced proficiency with data analysis, statistical methods, and/or predictive analytics.
  • Experience with survey design, administration, analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail. Ability to spot errors and inconsistencies in programming code, spreadsheets, reports, and graphics.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other System and campus administrators and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete assignments in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills to develop and execute work plans, prioritize work, manage multiple evaluation and/or research projects, and meet program demands and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years of experience working in higher education.
  • Experience working on issues specifically impacting 2-year colleges.
  • Experience developing databases, in particular large-scale and from multiple data sources.
  • Familiarity with labor market data, tools, and resources.
  • Familiarity with demographics-related data, tools, and resources.
  • Experience analyzing, querying, manipulating, and extracting data from large databases in an applied research or educational setting.
  • Experience translating data-related and research findings into deliverables for diverse types of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to visually and graphically present data and information in a clean and informative manner, preferably in Tableau and/or Power BI.

Additional Information

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $80,000-$95,000 annually.
  • The state title for this position is Associate for Institutional Research (SL-4) and is part of the United University Professions Union.
  • This is a full-time hybrid appointment that requires being on-site in Albany, NY 50% of the time (alternating 3 days one week and 2 days next week).
  • This position may require occasional travel to campuses participating in the collaborative services initiative.
