About The SUNY SOC
The goal of the SUNY Security Operations Center (SOC) is to provide resources to improve Information Security services University-wide, and to do so in ways that provide consistent, cost-effective, preemptive, and equally secure operations.?? The SUNY SOC engages with campuses to provide services that help improve the security posture of campus networks. The small team of SOC analysts is continually improving the tools and processes that are used as part of the offered penetration tests and vulnerability assessments. By constantly researching vulnerabilities and exploits, the SOC detects where a campus could be susceptible to attack and gives recommendations to remediate those attack paths.
Duties
SUNY Security Operations Center (SOC) is partnering with SUNY campuses to provide SUNY employees with Cybersecurity career opportunities. SUNY Employees with an interest in learning about and participating in offensive security operations can apply for fellowships of paid extra service. SOC fellows will perform assigned work for the SUNY SOC as they engage with campuses on penetration tests and vulnerability assessments. Participating in these tasks will provide new insights and build upon cybersecurity practices that SUNY employees can take back and apply in their role.

Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Be a full-time SUNY employee, working in an IT-related technical role for a SUNY campus.
- Access to a computer or laptop to connect via secure remote access
- Applicants must be able to devote between 5 to 10 hours per week over a 15-week period
- Fundamental understanding of the Linux environment
- This position is not intended for individuals seeking internship experience.
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Work may be completed via employee's home campus
