WELDER MECHANIC I

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Mechanical Services, has a full-time vacancy for Welder Mechanic I.

SUMMARY :

Performs a wide range of welding/mechanical fabrication/repair work on NHDOT fleet equipment in the Welding Shop, Bureau of Mechanical Services.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in welding or a related mechanical trade.

License/Certification : Valid driver’s license

Other Requirements:

1. Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards established by the hiring agency.

2. Shall provide own standard assortment of automotive mechanic tools thru 1” diameter and 1/2” drive.

3. Must pass Bureau’s welding test.

Trainee Option: Not Applicable

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Adept with oxygen-acetylene welding procedures as well as the AC/DC manual electrode, and knowledgeable with as least one other type of welding, preferably MIG.

Completion of apprenticeship training (6000 hours) as a welder.

Possession of Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with airbrake endorsement.

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with air brake endorsements within 1 year of hire.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Manufactures consumable components for the New Hampshire DOT equipment fleet.

Performs custom assembly of new truck chassis for highway maintenance operations by mounting bodies and other associated components.

Installs, modifies, customizes, and repairs hydraulic systems of all types including computerized controls.

Works with blueprints, modifies plans, and drafts plans to fabricate special equipment components in order to fill orders for NHDOT highway maintenance districts.

Performs routine and specialized welding work involving various metals and various welding techniques on equipment from outside agencies to provide cost effective repairs.

Operates shop equipment to fabricate components, make repairs, and assemble trucks.

Maintains metalworking, welding, and lifting equipment.

Drives trucks and other relevant highway equipment to ensure safe conditions on designated highways throughout the year.

Maintains a safe working environment.
