The State of New Hampshire, Judicial Branch, Supreme Court has a full-time vacancy for Chief of Staff to the Chief Justice.
The Chief of Staff to the Chief Justice supports the Chief Justice in carrying out the constitutional responsibilities associated with administering the court system. This senior-level role provides executive support to the Chief Justice and plays a lead role in the coordination and advancement of the Judicial Branch's mission, priorities, and public responsibilities. The Chief of Staff serves as a key advisor, manages the Judicial Branch compliance program and special projects, facilitates interagency and intergovernmental relations, and oversees internal communication and strategic initiatives on behalf of the Chief Justice.
Summary : The New Hampshire Constitution provides that the Supreme Court Chief Justice is the administrative head of the court system. He or she is charged with the authority, with the concurrence of a majority of the supreme court justices, to make rules governing the administration of all New Hampshire courts and the practice and procedure to be followed in all such courts.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in legal, governmental, judicial, or executive administration. Demonstrated experience managing high-level projects, communications, and policy development.
Preferred : Juris Doctor or advanced degree in public administration, law, or a related field. Prior experience working within the judicial system or in a senior governmental role.
Key Responsibilities:
Executive Support and Strategic Leadership
Serves as an aide and advisor to the Chief Justice on administrative and organizational matters affecting the Judicial Branch.
Works with the Administrative Office of the Courts and judicial leaders to assist the Chief Justice in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that align with Judicial Branch’s mission, values and priorities.
Coordinates and manages the Chief Justice’s schedule, briefings, and commitments.
Supervises and/or coordinates the work of staff or consultants supporting the Chief Justice’s office.
Judicial Administration and Policy Coordination
Oversees and coordinates complex projects involving judicial policy and reform initiatives.
Supports the Chief Justice’s appointing authority to boards, commissions and other entities.
Serves as a point of contact for and liaison to national and local bar associations, public-interest organizations and other stakeholders.
Carries out research, writing, and analysis related to judicial administration and court governance.
Communication and Representation
Promotes communication strategies that ensure judges and Judicial Branch employees are informed about key initiatives and Judicial Branch administrative functions.
Drafts speeches, memoranda, policy documents, and official correspondence on behalf of the Chief Justice.
Facilitates open lines of communication with Executive Branch officials, Legislative Branch leadership, Commissioners and Agency Heads.
Maintains accessible information resources about key Judicial Branch initiatives.
Represents the Chief Justice at meetings, conferences, or public events as needed.
Compliance Program Management
In coordination with the Administrative Office of the Courts, manages the Judicial Branch’s centralized inventory of internal and external compliance and reporting obligations.
Communicates regularly with judges, employees and senior leadership to sustain enterprise-wide awareness of the Judicial Branch’s compliance and reporting obligations.
Tracks ongoing efforts to ensure that Judicial Branch operations adhere to statutory requirements, court rules, administrative orders, policies and other sources of authority.
Works with the Internal Audit Department to carry out quarterly reviews of the Compliance Program.

Work Environment:
Full-time position based in Concord, NH. Some travel, extended hours, or evening meetings may be required.
This is an at-will, exempt position under New Hampshire law.
