Overview:

The Starz Program is a franchise children’s fitness enrichment program that provides dance, cheerleading, gymnastics, sports, and fitness classes to children on-site at schools serving children ages 2-12. The Starz Program started in Virginia Beach over 20 years ago with locations across the country - and is growing quickly!

We are seeking a highly motivated part-time Director of Operations based in Richmond, VA to serve as the right-hand to the Owner, Executive Director of Starz of Richmond & Greater Washington. The Director of Operations will play a key leadership role to oversee daily operations of the Starz programs in Richmond, VA and Washington, D.C., helping to ensure that program operations are running smoothly in both locations and that the local part-time instructors (6 in Richmond, VA and 4 in Washington, D.C.) have the support they need to teach high-quality classes in schools. This role will require excellent operational skills to manage program operations across multiple locations as well as excellent teaching skills, as some classroom teaching and subbing will be required.

The Director of Operations can set their own weekly schedule, expecting to work approx. 20 hours per week,Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9am-5pm. The Director of Operations will need to be available daily to the Executive Director, Starz team members, and partners, checking email/texts routinely and responding to all business needs within 24 hours. The Director of Operations can perform administrative work remotely from home and must be in-person as needed to meet with Starz team members, partners, to teach/sub for classes, and to manage class equipment. While most in-person support will take place in Richmond, VA, quarterly in-person travel to Washington, D.C. will be required and will be scheduled in advance.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership

  • Work closely with the Owner, Executive Director, area leaders, and part-time instructors to ensure that each location is meeting its goals and that daily operations are running smoothly.
  • Meet at the beginning of each week with the Owner, Executive Director to discuss weekly business goals for each location. Connect regularly throughout the week to tackle projects together and check-in on action items. Proactively ask questions and provide updates.
  • Foster a positive, mission-driven culture that promotes collaboration, positivity, accountability, and high-quality programming.

Staff Recruiting, Onboarding/Training & Mentorship

  • Recruit qualified instructors year-round. Manage and respond to online job posts on really and Handshake. Build partnerships with local colleges and organizations to build strong pipelines of candidates.
  • Onboard and train new instructors to ensure that they are prepared to teach high-quality Starz classes.
  • Provide ongoing guidance, support, and mentorship to part-time instructors.
  • Offboard instructors as they transition off of the team.

School Partnerships

  • Manage the master seasonal class schedule and assign instructors to classes each season.
  • Work with school partners to book classes and coordinate class logistics.
  • Develop partnerships with new schools and community organizations in order to book new classes and summer camps. This may include creating a target lists of schools, sending outreach emails, making cold calls, and conducting in-person school visits to promote the program.
  • Serve as a trusted leader in the region and an additional point of contact for local school and community partners to ensure high customer satisfaction.

Starz Classes

  • Must be willing to teach Starz classes (dance, cheerleading, gymnastics, sports, fitness) in order to serve as a model instructor for the team and to understand the Starz curriculum and classroom dynamics.
  • Serve as a back-up sub to teach classes if an instructor calls out sick.
  • Support instructors with class curriculum and classroom management.
  • Conduct site observations to ensure that instructors are teaching high-quality classes.

Other Duties

  • Manage program databases, employee payroll, customer billing, compliance requirements, instructor supplies, student t-shirts, and class equipment.
  • Represent the organization at regional events, conferences, and on monthly Starz franchise calls.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Passion for Starz's mission.
  • Experience teaching children and excellent classroom management skills.
  • Experience in program management, ideally in the education, youth enrichment, or non-profit space.
  • Experience in people management, preferably managing college students, young professionals, or part-time staff.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proof of a valid driver's license.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to lift and carry class equipment and supplies up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk, sit, bend, squat, raise arms above head, run short distances, and move around a classroom or similar type space to teach fitness classes and monitor students without limitation.

Pay: $20/hour seasonal bonuses and incentives
