Job Summary
The Food & Beverage Supervisor assists in ensuring that Servers, Bartenders, Food Runners, and Greeters deliver efficient service with a high level of professionalism and courtesy. This role works closely with the Restaurant Manager to support new staff training, shift lineups, associate development, and the implementation of customer service standards. The Food & Beverage Supervisor serves as a liaison between front-of-house and kitchen teams to ensure clear communication, proper order timing, and a seamless guest experience. This position also assists in addressing and resolving guest concerns as needed to maintain positive guest relations.
Primary Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Plan, supervise and control various operations, working closely and supporting the Food & Beverage manager
Anticipate guest needs, respond promptly, acknowledge all guests and resolve complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction
Ensure the correct set up for functions and bookings for the day
Maintain excellent product knowledge
Manage waiters, barman and runners by ensuring the smooth running of the floor and that duties are carried out in a professional and timeous manner
Conduct service briefings and constant effective communication with managers and supervisors regarding any guest or staff issues
Encourage and motivate staff with a positive attitude
Ensure all front of house staff adhere to the company code of conduct and standard operating procedures
Monitor staff service levels to establish any areas that require attention or further training and provide training where required
Ongoing menu and beverage training as well as developing regular tests.
Prepare weekly staff rosters if needed
Monitor and authorize staff clock in and clock out procedures
Assist the Food & Beverage Manager with HR related matters
Operate POS (point of sale) and maintain security of system
Follow the correct cash up and management of bills and house accounts, including cash and credit card transactions
Prepare reports for the Food & Beverage Manager
All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and to communicate with guests
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in basic English preferred
Degree in Hospitality Management preferred
3-5 years’ experience in a luxury hotel & restaurant environment
A strong grasp of operational systems (Micros POS and Opera) and computer literacy in Microsoft Excel, Word, Power point, Outlook
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Detail-oriented and thorough
Ability to perform consistent work to the highest of standards
Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of guests
Ability to interact with guests in a pleasant, friendly way
Able to perform and train in all duties and descriptions of the host, bartender, server assistant, and server positions
Ability to maintain a warm and friendly demeanor
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written
Ability to multitask
Ability to comply with St. Joe standards
Ability to lead a team efficiently and effectively
Ability to solve problems independently
Extensive knowledge of Food & Beverage Operations
Extensive knowledge of operating POS systems
Extensive knowledge in scheduling employees
Moderate wine knowledge
Ability to stand in as and train all positions within the Food & Beverage department
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and email
Ability to follow and enforce all Food & Beverage regulations
Physical Demands
Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, walking, pushing, and pulling
Occasional keyboarding
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Working Conditions
Primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors
Exposure to cleaning chemicals (with proper PPE)
Possible exposure to a somewhat noisy environment
Fast-paced, high-pressure environment especially during banquets and large events
