Overview
Take your Flight/Ground Communications experience to one of the fastest growing Health Systems in the DMV region. Our client is seeking a skilled manager who will oversee the communications for 4 helicopters, 11 ambulances and 3 ALS Trucks. This position plays a critical role in the coordination of air and ground medical transport by ensuring seamless, reliable, and compliant communication between pilots, medical crews, dispatchers, and hospital units. The position is based in Lanham, MD and the organization will offer relocation assistance if relocation is required. The target salary range is $75K-$115K and will be based on experience.
This team is in growth mode, so you’ll have the opportunity to develop policies, improve procedures, manage internal and external partnerships, collaborate with program leaders and help define and deliver supporting organizational strategies and goals. You’ll oversee the budget and use your organizational savviness to manage projects and strategies effectively with the strong support of their AVP of Clinical Operations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee 24/7 communications between aircraft, dispatch, emergency medical teams, and receiving facilities. Prioritize transport based on urgency, location and medical need.
- Supervise and train a team of communication specialists and dispatchers
- Ensure all flight-following operations comply with FAA regulations, CAMTS accreditation standards, and internal protocols.
- Utilize GPS tracking and computer aided dispatch (CAD) records. Assure configuration, maintenance and of systems is reliable, secure and up-to date and is adhering to FCC rules and regulations including keeping FCC and regulatory licenses current
- Coordinate emergency response protocols, ensuring fast and secure communication during trauma events or natural disasters.
- Manage and audit communication logs for compliance, quality assurance, and performance improvements.
- Collaborate with flight operations, clinical staff, EMS, and hospital administration to streamline communication workflows.
- In collaboration with leadership, manages departmental strategic planning on an annual basis, making necessary changes and adjustments throughout the year to meet new or changing priorities; includes concentrated focus on assigned team duties and outcomes
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Communications, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in aviation/ground communications or flight operations, preferably in health care related industry (EMS, health system).
- Familiarity with Flight Following Systems (e.g., FlightAware, Flight Vector, or equivalent).
- CAD Experience, particularly with Flight Vector
- Deep understanding of FAA, CAMTS, and HIPAA regulations related to communications and medical transport
- Proven leadership and team management experience.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
