Groundskeeper

Organizational Overview:

Assisi House is a retirement convent for the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in Aston, PA. It has sprawling, beautiful grounds with an adjacent cemetery. The grounds person assists with grounds upkeep for Assisi House and some surrounding properties.

Position Summary:

• Carries out responsibilities and interacts with all individuals in accordance with the mission and values of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia.
• Works as a member of grounds team to maintain the assigned areas as directed for the grounds of Assisi House and the surrounding properties of the Sisters of St. Francis.

Job Duties:

• Cuts grass, weeds, edges, trims, rakes, clears brush and vines, plants, mulches and waters plants.
• Operates landscape equipment to include: push mowers, riding mowers, string trimmers, snow blowers, snow plows and back hoe.
• Cleans and maintains the equipment and interior work areas which includes washing the work trucks.
• Completes all phases of cemetery work including but not limited to digging, setting up and backfilling graves.
• Follows safe work procedures in carrying out responsibilities and in using equipment, and wears appropriate attire and safety equipment as required, i.e. work shoes, protective glasses, ear plugs, gloves, tick repellent.
• Picks up supplies and transports items using company trucks.
• Plows paths and roadways. Shovels snow to clear walkways, doorways, fire hydrants and storm drains during winter months.
• Helps with decorating the indoor and outdoor trees with lighting for the holiday season.
• May assist with special projects on Red Hill Farm.
• May assist with some furniture movement occasionally.
• Attends departmental meetings and morning stand up meetings to receive work assignment(s) and any updates.
• Follows all facility, departmental and Human Resources policies and procedures.
• Adheres to the departmental schedules, break schedules, and policies. Arrives at work on time and when scheduled.
• Works as a team player. Assists co-workers as needed. Promotes a customer service approach when interacting with others.
• Adheres to proper dress code requirements.
• Communicates effectively and appropriately with residents, co-workers and manager.
• Performs other duties and assignments as directed.

Qualifications:

• Is able to support the mission and values of the Sisters of St. Francis.
• Possesses a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• A minimum of one year experience in large scale grounds keeping work is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of landscaping, such as mowing, grass, planting trees and shrubs, and preparing beds and grounds for planting.
• Basic knowledge of and ability to recognize trees, shrubs, grass, plants and weeds.
• Basic knowledge of the operation and care of outdoor equipment and how they work.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with the other department members. Works as an effective team member. Is able to accept constructive feedback.
• Good communication skills.
• Possesses the ability to work independently and without regular supervisory guidance. Is able to follow instructions and demonstrate sound judgment.
• Is flexible and able to work with interruptions and adjust work priorities as needed.
• Is able to work on call and longer than regularly scheduled hours in the event of a weather emergency.
• Has personal integrity.

Physical Requirements

Ability to:

• Work outdoors most of the time and withstand extreme adverse weather conditions- hot and cold, snow and ice, wind and rain.
• Stand, walk, bend, lift, kneel, carry and push for long periods of time.
• Operate landscape and snow removal equipment.
• Carry, lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
