What are the responsibilities and job description for the Host/Hostess position at The Shed?
Key Responsibilities:
Guest Reception & Seating
- Greet guests warmly as they enter the restaurant, make them feel welcome, and provide a positive first impression.
- Manage waitlists and reservations efficiently using the restaurant's reservation system.
- Assign tables based on seating availability, guest preferences, and server rotation to ensure fair distribution of guests.
- Escort guests to their assigned tables, present menus, and introduce the server.
- Inform guests about estimated wait times during busy periods and provide updates as needed.
- Offer to take coats, umbrellas, or other belongings if applicable.
Reservation & Waitlist Management
- Answer phone calls and assist guests with reservations, inquiries, and take-out orders.
- Keep accurate records of guest reservations and seating arrangements.
- Communicate effectively with management and servers regarding seating availability and any special requests.
- Adjust seating plans in real-time to accommodate walk-ins and large parties.
Customer Service & Hospitality
- Engage with guests in a friendly and professional manner, addressing any questions or concerns.
- Provide guests with general information about the restaurant, menu options, and daily specials.
- Assist with special requests such as birthday celebrations, anniversaries, or dietary accommodations.
- Handle guest complaints professionally, escalating issues to management when necessary.
Operational Support & Cleanliness
- Ensure the front entrance, host stand, and waiting areas remain clean and organized.
- Help maintain the appearance of the dining room, assisting in resetting tables when needed.
- Restock host stand supplies, including menus, reservation books, and promotional materials.
- Support servers by refilling water glasses, clearing plates, or assisting with special guest needs.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work closely with servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth restaurant operations.
- Communicate effectively with the kitchen and management regarding large parties, VIP guests, or any special circumstances.
- Monitor dining room flow and collaborate with the restaurant team to optimize seating efficiency.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience in a host/hostess or customer service role preferred but not required.
- Customer Service Skills: Friendly, welcoming personality with strong interpersonal skills.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with guests and team members.
- Multi-Tasking: Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional Appearance: Maintain a neat and polished appearance at all times.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods and walk throughout the restaurant.
- Availability: Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Pay: $12.00 per hour
