Summary
The Technology Trainer reports to the Senior Employment Specialist. This role involves providing technology training that promotes digital literacy, prepares individuals for the workforce, and encourages independence. The ideal candidate should have a strong work ethic, a passion for teaching, and expertise in adult learning. As an integral member of the Elder Financial Safety Center team, the Technology Trainer collaborates with cross-functional teams to promote the economic security of individuals aged 50 and above. This role does not involve direct supervision of staff.
Program Goal
Equip adults 50 with the tools and knowledge they need to secure their financial future, avoid outliving their savings, and prevent financial exploitation.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Classroom teaching
- Delivers engaging, easy-to-follow technology classes for older adults using a prescribed curriculum from Senior Planet, covering topics such as computer basics, smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, various applications, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and social media.
- Collaborates with the team to deliver technology-related employment classes, helping older adults navigate job search engines, update résumés, and apply for jobs online.
- Delivers training in various formats, including in-person, online, and mobile applications, adapting to different learning preferences, instructing up to 8 sessions a week, including some evening and weekend sessions.
Class and program development
- Identifies technology skill gaps among senior learners and develops classes tailored to their needs, ensuring accessibility and engagement.
- Creates, implements, evaluates, and refines technology training content to ensure effectiveness in meeting learner needs and workforce trends.
- Conducts technology training needs assessments for both clients and staff, making data-driven recommendations for program improvement.
Administrative duties
- Prepares an annual technology programming plan that is adaptable to evolving client needs and technology trends.
- Coordinates training schedules, content, and priorities in collaboration with the Education Manager.
- Works with marketing and communications teams to promote and enroll clients in training programs.
- Collects and reports data on all training sessions, ensuring accurate documentation of client progress and program impact.
Community outreach
- Conducts outreach and collaborates with community partners to expand access to technology training beyond the main facility.
- Represents the organization and its programs at community events, workshops, and forums, advocating for senior digital inclusion.
General responsibilities
- Continuously enhances expertise by attending professional development, training seminars, and maintaining industry certifications.
- Ensures a high standard of professionalism, commitment, and work ethic in all aspects of program delivery.
- Participates in cross-functional team projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the EFSC Director or Center and agency leadership.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree is required in Education, Instructional Technology, Training, Human Resources, or a related field, preferred with three to five years of experience.
- Strong background in adult learning methodologies and instructional best practices preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database software; Strong working knowledge of IT, digital literacy, and workforce technology.
- Cultural competence with an ability to work successfully within an inclusive team and with diverse clients.
- Ability to create and adapt educational content for diverse learners.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently or collaboratively.
- Passion for teaching, serving underserved communities, and promoting digital literacy among seniors.
- Capacity to work in a first-of-its-kind program that requires a high level of adaptation and willingness to be flexible as the project evolves.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
