The Sand Mountain Reporter is seeking a motivated and community-focused Journalist to join our newsroom serving Marshall County, Alabama, and surrounding communities. This position is available in both full-time and part-time roles. Full-time employees are eligible for company benefits.
The Journalist will be responsible for researching, writing, and reporting accurate and engaging local news stories across print and digital platforms. Coverage areas may include local government, business, education, community events, public safety, sports, and human-interest stories throughout Marshall County. Daily responsibilities include conducting interviews, attending community meetings and events, writing articles and press releases, fact-checking information, and collaborating with the editorial team to meet deadlines and produce high-quality local journalism.
The ideal candidate should have strong writing and communication skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and a passion for local news and community storytelling. Applicants should be dependable, detail-oriented, professional, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in journalism, writing, communications, or related fields is preferred but not required.
Pay: $10.00 - $17.00 per hour
