The Sand Mountain Reporter is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Graphic Designer / Composer to join our newspaper production team. This position is responsible for designing advertisements, creating page layouts, preparing print-ready files, and assisting with the visual presentation of both print and digital content. The ideal candidate has strong design skills, thrives in a deadline-driven environment, and takes pride in producing high-quality work that serves local businesses and our community.
Responsibilities
- Design newspaper advertisements for local businesses
- Create and assemble newspaper pages for print publication
- Prepare files for commercial printing
- Design promotional materials including flyers, brochures, banners, and special publications
- Work directly with advertisers to develop effective ad concepts
- Maintain brand consistency across print and digital products
- Collaborate with editors, journalists, sales staff, and management
- Ensure all projects meet production deadlines
- Perform photo editing and image preparation
- Assist with special sections, magazines, and community publications
Qualifications
- Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, or Illustrator preferred
- Strong understanding of layout, typography, and visual design
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Newspaper, printing, or advertising experience preferred but not required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Pay: $13.00 - $17.00 per hour
