Job Summary:

General responsibilities are to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate programs to properly acknowledge, recognize and steward gifts of all levels to The Salvation Army. This position’s role is to assist in building and strengthening relationships with donors and donor prospects by partnering with development officers to determine the best strategies for effective stewardship of donors.  Conducts research, prepares, and provides profiles and reports on potential and identified annual and campaign major gifts donors/prospects to aid in their solicitation for various forms of gifts. Assists with maintaining a comprehensive donor research library and remains current in the use of these materials. Assists Development team in analysis of individual, foundation and corporate donors and suggests cultivation/ solicitation strategies.

This Position is Responsible For:

  • Manages the Donor Care Program 
  • Serves as a key donor-facing contact for gift questions and account updates
  • Manages communications and stewardship for the Community Supporters tier 1 donors portfolio ($1 to $249), ensuring timely acknowledgments, accurate records, and clear donor support
  • Supports Donor Pipeline Strategy by working with the Individual Giving Team

Key Responsibilities:

  • Donor Prospect Research (40%)
    • Performs donor and prospect research, utilizing a variety of web-based sources; provides summaries of data and reports as requested.  
    • Compiles complete and accurate research profiles of assigned donors and prospects in response to requests from Development Team and Campaign Team. 
    • Meets appropriate standards regarding research information storage and access. 
    • Update donor records with all appropriate research information. 
    • Assists the Development team in working on major gift portfolio and research needs, enabling them to meet fundraising goals. 
    • Assists the Development team in suggesting appropriate cultivation and solicitation strategies for individual donors/prospects. 
    • Maintains solicitation-based prospect management tracking system and monitors and reports on established metrics to evaluate pipeline management and fundraising success. 
    • Proactively identifies new and high-level annual and campaign major gift leads and prospects through prospecting of direct mail donors, electronic alerts, analysis, screening information, data mining techniques, push technology, demographic searches, etc. 
    • Prepares prospect reports for use by Development team and serves as prospect tracking and record keeping processes lead. Leverage established protocols for tracking within Monday.com and TSA’s CRM. 
    • Maintains and analyzes prospective and upgraded donor data and develops current and prospective donor lists and data. Produces current and prospective donor profiles and helps determine appropriate solicitation ranges. Coordinates with HQ on Territorial quarterly updates of Wealth and Ratings in IC and reviews this data for accuracy. 
    • Leads list management of major gift portfolios regarding movement of qualified/disqualified leads, treatment in database, communication streams, etc.  
    • Reviews and refreshes prospect pool each year adding leads and prospects with $5,000 estimated capacity to relationship manager portfolios. 
    • Develop, implement and monitor an overall donor stewardship/recognition plan for the Area Command. 
    • Develop, monitor and maintain guidelines and procedures for acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of all gifts to the Area Command in partnership with Donor Services and Development teams. 
    • Develop and coordinate special stewardship mailings in conjunction with Development team. 
    • Assist Development and Donor Services team with resolution of complaints, errors, or disputes regarding acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of donors and/or their gifts. 
  •  Stewardship Responsibilities (30%)
    • Develop and implement a plan for measuring the effectiveness of the donor stewardship program designed to surprise and delight donors, tailored for individual and institutional donor segments, to ensure donors feel appreciated and recognized, and understand their philanthropic impact. 
    • In collaboration with Development and Marketing teams, create stewardship reports for donors which can be personalized for reporting their impact. 
    • Serves as connection point among Development and Donor Services teams as it relates to stewardship activities, ensuring that details of stewardship plans are communicated to all involved parties.  
  • Administrative Responsibilities (30%)  
    • Ensures proper and professional procedures for donor contact and communication are utilized. 
    • Working with Donor Services team maintains and manages an efficient donor record-keeping and reporting system, ensuring that accurate and complete records are prepared and maintained for each donor and identified prospect within TSA CRM and applicable software. 
    • Coordinates, implements, and ensures successful completion of all assigned special projects, which may include regional giving days among others. 
    • Understands and utilizes resources, including software, needed to keep the donor research system current. 
    • Demonstrates knowledge regarding online tools for prospect research. 
    • Stays current on research issues through reading available articles, books, periodicals, etc. 
    • Attends approved research training seminars/workshops. 
    • Working with Donor Services, follows and contributes to a manual of operating procedures to retrieve research information from the donor database. 
    • Stays well-informed of prospect information and local and regional business developments and economic trends. 
    • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements. 
  • Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. 
  • Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints. 
  • Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment and exercise confidentiality. 
  • Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism and donor care. 
  • Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. 
  • Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently. 
  • Work may be performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like but not limited to the office environment.

Qualifications:
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
    • Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records and ability to perform the same. 
    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of fund-raising management. 
    • Knowledge of intermediate to advance CRM software and/or similar software. 
    • Knowledge of intermediate to advanced MS Office Software. 
    • Ability to maintain the security and accountability of donated funds and/or assets. 
    • Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. 
    • Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete and timely manner. 
    • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision. 
    • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Salvation Army officers, employees, member of advisory organizations, and the community. 

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in liberal arts or related field,

and

Three years progressively responsible experience demonstrating a record of accomplishment in fund development or related, with prior Raiser’s Edge experience,

or

any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Valid Texas Driver’s License
