Role Description This on-site Part Time Cashier/Sorter volunteer role is based in Roswell, NM and supports The Salvation Army’s thrift and retail operations. Day-to-day tasks include operating the cash register, handling customer purchases, providing courteous customer service, and accurately managing cash and receipts. The role also involves sorting, pricing, and organizing donated items, maintaining a clean and safe sales floor and back room, and assisting with stocking and displays. Volunteers may help with basic record-keeping related to sales and inventory, follow all safety and loss prevention procedures, and collaborate with staff and other volunteers to ensure an efficient, welcoming environment for shoppers and donors.
Qualifications
- Ability to handle basic cash register operations, manage transactions accurately, and provide friendly, respectful customer service.
- Capability to sort, organize, and price donated goods, with attention to detail and adherence to guidelines.
- Reliable time management skills, including punctuality, consistency in attendance, and the ability to follow instructions and procedures.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move light to moderate loads, and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well in a diverse team environment and communicate clearly with staff, volunteers, and customers.

- Previous retail, cashier, or volunteer experience is helpful but not required; training will be provided.
Part-Time: 28 Hours per week; Mon, Tues, Wed., Thurs., and Sat. 9a to 5p with an hour lunch. Sun., Mon., and Fri. Off.
