What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fitness Attendant (4705) position at THE SALVATION ARMY?
Schedule/Hours: Part-time – 27.5 hours per week
This position is responsible for:
Plans, instructs, and leads members participating in fitness activities; ensures the proper maintenance of all fitness center equipment; promotes proper exercise techniques and nutrition habits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instructs members in the fundamentals of various fitness techniques; critiques and provides feedback to fitness and nutrition program participants regarding their performance level.
- Teach, demonstrate and implement fitness programs and classes suitable for children and adults of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Generates accident and/or incident reports as needed; submits proper documentation to supervisor upon completion.
- Maintains order and control over members participating in fitness activities; maintains open communication with participants’ parents to discuss performance, behavior and schedules.
- Plans, conducts, and leads team meetings on a regular basis ensuring all team members are aware of fitness activities, schedule and plans.
- Obtains, maintains, and secures fitness equipment in compliance with acceptable standards to ensure the long life of equipment.
- Protects The Salvation Army interests by observing and preventing potentials for liabilities due to injuries; ensures the safety of all participants.
- Assists the Program Coordinator by assessing the need for additional classes or rescheduling of daily activities; ensures the schedule of activities matches member expectations.
- Prepares and maintains weekly reports of class attendance.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to meet attendance requirements
- Ability to read, write and communicate the English language
- Ability to perform duties with a combination of frequent sitting, standing and walking.
- Physical effort required associated with walking, running, standing, and moderate-to-advanced weightlifting in a fitness center environment.
- Work is performed in a normal fitness center environment where there are physical discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Licenses and Certifications:
- ACSM Health Fitness Instructor certification (preferred)
- ACE Exercise Instructor Certification (preferred)
- C.P.R. and First Aid Certification (upon hire)
