What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director Of Operations (4814) position at THE SALVATION ARMY?
This position is responsible for:
- Plans, projects, and provides administrative and managerial support for a selected Corps location.
- Supervises, monitors, and evaluates all operations within the location to ensure goals and objectives are accomplished and to confirm adherence to established policies and procedures.
- Ensures the United Way and other grant funding documentation is prepared and funds are administered appropriately.
- Serves as liaison and technical resource, external organizations, Advisory Board, Advisory Councils, and Executive Committees regarding the Corps business and programs.
- Assumes additional responsibilities at the direction of the Divisional Secretary for Program;
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervises Corps staff; provides leadership and overall supervision to professional staff in the following departments: Human Resources, Ministry, and Social Services.
- Assumes the ultimate decision-making role; maintains awareness of issues to maintain efficiency on a daily basis; provides approvals as needed and in a timely manner
- Plans, schedules, and conducts meetings to discuss issues, priorities, practices, and procedures; resolves operational problems and giving recommendations
- Ensures that The Salvation Army in Alexandria, LA has a balanced budget and oversees a conservative approach to spending.
- Coordinates the development and implementation of a strategic short-range and long-range plan for capital and program needs with the Divisional Secretary for Program, Advisory Board and city officers and staff
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for extended periods of time when reading and preparing reports or resolving operational problems.
- Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
- Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or a related field,
- And
- five years progressively responsible experience in managing business and financial affairs of a complex, multi-functional organization,
- or
- any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- BFOQ: Must be Salvation Army mission minded , highly familiar with The Salvation Army history, purpose, doctrines, and ministry.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid States Driver’s License
