Divisional Grant Writer Job LocationsUS-OH-Cincinnati Job ID 2026-15256 Category Fundraising Type Regular Full-Time Overview DEPARTMENT: CRD REPORTS TO: Divisional Director of Advancement SUPERVISES: None STATUS: Exempt SCHEDULE: 35 hours FUNCTION: The Divisional Grant Writer takes the lead in writing, reviewing, editing and compiling funding applications and reports for non-governmental grants and foundation funds for Salvation Army locations in the Southwest Ohio Northern Kentucky Division and supporting these locations with grant applications and processing. Keeps detailed record of annual of grant activity, timelines and deadlines and works collaboratively with other staff and departments as needed to complete grant applications. Responsibilities Responsible for full grant cycles: research, proposal development and reporting of any grants which are written and/or supported by this position Evaluates, manages and stewards relations with current and new funding partners to provide financial support for The Salvation Army mission, including general operating, program, capacity, and capital funding. Identifies new funding applications based on Corps Officer and DHQ requests. Keeps a calendar of grant applications, deadlines, and follow up. Provides reports back to grant funders in a timely fashion and delivers impact reports as needed. Follows Salvation Army procedures for grant reviews and submissions and works ahead of grant deadline submissions to allow for this internal review process and subsequent application. Connects with the Divisional point of contact for internal grant processing and subsequent approvals Collaborate with Corps Officers, Program Managers and staff from The Salvation army to understand the prioritized needs for grant funding and persuasively relay those needs to further develop existing relationships with funders and/or research new opportunities to meet needs for funding. Evaluates previous year’s funding and discusses potential for increased asks with Corps Officers and/or Divisional Advancement Director for appropriate guidance. Assures that grants are noted in the Salesforce database. Aids with grant applications and grant opportunities to all Divisional Corps. Support may include consulting; researching grant opportunities, application processes, sharing deadlines for application and follow-up; writing; editing; providing or help obtaining required documents for application process (organizational, financial, accreditation, tax or other); and outlining/facilitating the process for obtaining Territorial Headquarters legal review and approval of proposals, grant contract agreements. Collaborate with other TSA grant writers locally, regionally, and should larger gifts be a possibility with partnership. Provide status reports on grant activities to supervisor Maintains complete files, copies of proposals, cover letters, attachments, transmittal letters from funder (award or denial), thank you letters, copy of check(s), running log of telephone and other contacts with funds, copies of reports, etc. Establish and maintain staff relationships necessary to obtain program and budget information needed to complete accurate and successful proposals. Provides outstanding stewardship of funds and donor cultivation, e.g. acknowledging gifts, delivering proposals, sending updates and sharing success stories (photos and thank you from clients when applicable). Becomes knowledgeable of The Salvation Army, its mission and specific programs and projects needing funding For Greater Cincinnati based grants: Partners with Compliance Manager to ensure compliance and appropriate budgets are secured in Greater Cincinnati for program and/or grant funder requests and connects the Compliance Manager with the grant approval processes. Attends monthly meetings to review grant needs and priorities and status on grant activities Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of relevant education or experience Previous grant or persuasive writing experiences Strong written, communication and business skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, able to relate professionally and effectively with key constituencies (internal and external), and able to manage sensitive situations and confidential Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with donor database applications. Salesforce or CRM work a plus. Must be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team. Must understand and appreciate the mission of The Salvation Army. Collaborative and energetic team player. Ability to respond to management direction, commitment to working extended hours as needed, and complete tasks on time or notify manager with an alternate plan.
