Job Description:
As the cashier, you will help facilitate the effective and efficient day-to-day operations of the Thrift Store, ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.
What You Will Do:
- Be responsible for keeping register, check-out, and counter areas clean and neat.
- Assist people with questions, donations and general information.
- Complete paperwork associated with the register, count down cash drawer, and prepare deposit at the end of your shift.
- Upon closing, you will clear register, account for all sales, fill out daily logbook, turn off signs, and turn off lights.
- Price bric-a-brac and place on shelves.
- Assist pricing on items such as shoes, purses, jewelry, accessories, etc. Keep hangers sorted by size/type and return hangers to appropriate hanger system located in clothing production area.
- Help check drop boxes daily - empty when necessary.
- Keep Christmas and Halloween items separate from bric-a-brac. After season, box and mark for storage.
- Place newer or higher priced clothing on special table in designated area.
- Place all rags in designated bins.
- Take out trash when necessary.
- Other tasks as assigned by leadership
Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.
Education: High School Diploma preferred
Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.
Experience: At least two years of retail experience preferred. Experience in use of cash register a plus.
Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment.
Skills/Abilities:
- Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
