TITLE: CONTROLLER
Position Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of a growing mid-sized law firm (50–60 attorneys). This role combines strategic financial leadership with day-to-day accounting oversight, providing accurate reporting, forecasting, and operational insights to firm leadership. The Controller will oversee accounting, billing, collections, budgeting, and financial analysis while leveraging technology and AI tools to improve efficiency and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, legal billing, and financial reporting.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and trust accounting (IOLTA) requirements.
- Oversee billing and collections processes, including legal billing systems such as Centerbase.
- Develop budgets, forecasts, financial models, and profitability analyses to support strategic decision-making.
- Utilize AI tools and automation to enhance reporting, forecasting, data analysis, and dashboard creation.
- Identify and implement process improvements to support firm growth and operational efficiency.
- Manage and mentor accounting staff, including oversight of the firm’s bookkeeper.
- Partner closely with firm leadership on financial planning and business operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (CPA not required).
- 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including management or mentorship responsibilities.
- Experience supporting organizations with revenues between $30M–$50M.
- Strong proficiency with QuickBooks and advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling and analysis.
- Experience utilizing AI tools in a finance or accounting environment; familiarity with Claude is a plus.
- Strong understanding of financial operations, including billing, collections, budgeting, and reporting.
- Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Law firm or professional services accounting experience is preferred
- Experience with legal billing platforms, including Centerbase.
- Knowledge of legal trust accounting (IOLTA) and law firm financial operations.

Salary : $180,000 - $225,000
