Rivers of Grosse pointe is looking for a Midnight Supervisor for the Skilled Nursing Floors. This position is an 8-hour shift position for a Licensed or Registered Nurse (RN or LPN)

Overview
The primary purpose of the unit nurse supervisor is to supervise the day to day activities on your assigned unit, during the assigned shift. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise nursing care provided by the nursing staff and others for whom they are administratively or professionally responsible.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures that govern the day to day functions of the nursing department.
  • Ensure that the Nursing Procedures Manual is current and reflects the day to day nursing procedures and that nursing staff comply with the procedures set forth in the Manual.
  • Provide written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director of Nursing as required concerning the operation of the Nursing Department.
  • Assist in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of resident care.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing department.
  • Periodically review the resident’s written discharge plan and participate in the updating of the discharge plan.
  • Meet with the nursing staff and support staff in planning the department’s services, programs, and activities.
  • Assist with resident admissions, discharges, and transfers as required.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, care plans, charting, etc., as necessary.
  • Report any unknown or suspected unauthorized attempts to access facility’s information system and/or suspected HIPAA violations.
  • Attend various committee meetings of the facility i.e., Quality Assurance Committee, Infection Control Committee, Quality of Life meetings.
  • Prepare and timely submit reports and information to the Quality Assurance Committee as requested.
  • Participate in developing agenda for the Care Plan Committee meetings as requested.
  • Ensure that a sufficient number of licensed nurses (RN and LPN), and certified nursing assistants are available for each shift to ensure routine nursing care is provided to meet the daily nursing care needs of each resident.
  • Take the on-call assignment on a rotating basis between nurse managers to ensure routine nursing care is provided, to meet the daily nursing care needs of each resident. The assigned on-call assignment runs from 4:00pm Friday until 8:00am the following Monday.
  • Develop work assignments and/or assist in completing and performing such tasks.
  • Delegate to each Charge Nurse the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to perform his/her assigned duties.
  • Ensure all nurse trainees and nurse aide trainees are under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Make daily rounds to ensure that all nursing staff are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards; report findings to the Director of Nursing.
  • Monitor absenteeism to ensure that an adequate number of nursing care personnel are on duty at all times; report problems to the Director of Nursing.
  • Ensure that established policies and procedures, including the dress code, are followed by all departmental staff.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility, to ensure that nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Meet with your staff on a regular basis, to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or assist in the improvement of services.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations, shift requirements, and making recommendations to the Director of Nursing concerning employee dismissal, transfers, etc.
  • Ensure that the departmental disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap, or marital status.
  • Report occupational exposures and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents.
  • Report known or suspected incidents of fraud to the Administrator.
  • Ensure rooms are ready for new admissions, required equipment is available in the room, and staff is aware of the expected new admission.
  • Make rounds with the physicians.
  • Inform the Director of Nursing when physician visits are not made in a timely manner.
  • Consult with the resident, his/her family, and the resident’s physician in planning the residents’ care, treatment, rehabilitation, etc.
  • Visit residents on a daily basis to observe and assess each resident’s physical and emotional status.
  • Review nurses’ notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided and that they reflect the resident’s response to the care.
  • Provide direct nursing care as needed.
  • Start IV’s, obtain sputum, urine, and other specimens for lab tests ordered.
  • Take TPR’s, blood pressure, etc., as necessary.
  • Report problem areas to the Director of Nursing. Assist in developing and implementing corrective actions.
  • Assist Charge Nurses in monitoring residents.
  • Ensure that all RN’s and LPN’s assigned to your unit comply with written procedures for the administration, storage, and control of medication and supplies.
  • Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure medications are being administered as ordered, and that treatments are being provided as scheduled.
  • Review MAR’s for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of physician orders, and adherence to stop order policies.
  • Meet with residents and family members, as necessary, and report problems to the Director of Nursing.
  • Participate in developing, planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training sessions to provide instruction to staff.
  • Provide leadership training that includes the administration and supervisory principles essential for your Charge Nurses.
  • Assist the In-Service Director in the development of in-service training programs for the nursing staff.
  • Assist the Safety Officer in developing safety standards for the nursing department and attend Safety Committee meetings.
  • Ensure that an adequate supply of personal protective equipment is available on the unit for staff who perform procedures that involve exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
  • Ensure that personnel follow established procedures for the use and disposal of personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure that all resident care rooms, treatment areas, etc., are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
  • Ensure that the nursing staff follows established handwashing and hand hygiene procedures.
  • Ensure that nursing personnel participate in, and conduct, all fire safety and disaster preparedness drills in a safe and professional manner.
  • Ensure that the nursing staff follows established infection control procedures when isolation precautions become necessary.
  • Assist the Maintenance Director in developing a preventative maintenance program for maintaining the Nursing Department’s equipment and supplies in a safe, operable, and sanitary manner.
  • Ensure that only trained nursing personnel operate the nursing department’s equipment.
  • Participate in the development of written preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each resident.
  • Participate in the development of written care plans for each resident that identifies the resident’s needs and indicates goals to be accomplished.
  • Review nurses’ notes to determine if the care plans are being followed.
  • Assist the Resident Assessment/Care Plan Coordinator in planning, scheduling, and revising the MDS for your residents.
  • Review resident’s medical and nursing treatments to ensure they are provided in accordance with the resident’s care plan.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information to the Administrator.
  • Monitor nursing care to ensure that all residents are treated fairly, and with dignity, kindness, and respect.
  • Ensure all nursing staffers are knowledgeable of Resident’s Rights, including the right to refuse treatment.
  • Review complaints made by a resident or family member and submit a written report (Resident Assistance form) to the Director of Nursing indicating what corrective actions were taken.
  • Immediately report all allegation of resident abuse or neglect and/or misappropriation of resident property to the Administrator and Director of Nursing.
Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Must have a current Michigan license to practice as a registered nurse (RN), or licensed nurse practitioner (LPN), and must have a current CPR certification.
  • Must have, as a minimum, 1 year of experience in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility. Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge of basic nursing practice with an interest in gerontological nursing; prefer two years experience in a long term care setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and through written reports and other documents relating to residents, staff, and others.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from residents, physicians, family members, staff members, and state surveyors.
  • Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. Stooping, bending, lifting, carrying, and other physical demands may be required. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
