The Manager, Optimization - Marine Operations is responsible for developing programs and infrastructure that support strategic talent deployment, organizational structure, and recruitment and retention of marine personnel. The role maximizes existing talent and resources through thoughtful planning, development initiatives, training programs, rotation management, and organizational development initiatives. Working closely with shipboard leadership and department heads, the Manager ensures vessels are properly structured, manned, and supported to deliver safe, consistent, and high-performing operations. This role plays a critical part in building long-term capability and operational readiness across the fleet.

Essential Functions
Workforce Deployment & Disposition Planning
- Lead strategic marine workforce planning and officer disposition across the fleet. Utilize advanced methods, including skill mapping and cultural fit analysis, to optimize team composition and ensure onboard synergy alongside regulatory compliance, operational requirements, and retention goals.
- Develop and implement informed deployment strategies that structure optimal teams, leveraging data on individual competencies and team dynamics.
- Collaborate closely with key stakeholders to continuously assess and optimize the onboard organizational structure for clarity, cohesion, and effectiveness.
- Employ data-driven insights and operational analytics to inform dynamic adjustments to roles, responsibilities, and reporting lines, ensuring the structure remains agile and responsive to evolving operational demands and strategic goals.
- Enhance visibility into workforce performance and capability by integrating insights from multiple sources, analyzing this comprehensive data to identify talent trends, capability gaps, pressure points, and opportunities for optimizing deployment and development initiatives.
- Design and conduct targeted assessments of team effectiveness and functional capabilities to proactively understand operational readiness, skill gaps, and specific team-based needs.
- Own the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of key Marine Operations programs, including onboarding, familiarization, and strategic talent development initiatives.
- Drive and implement a targeted, needs-based approach to training and development. Utilize performance insights, capability assessments, audit results, and individual/organizational goals to recommend specific interventions.
- Act as a key user and advisor for work planning, crewing dashboards, and marine workforce tracking tools.
- Leverage analytics and data visualizations to improve crew planning efficiency, reduce turnover risk, and improve decision-making for Marine Operations leadership
- Lead the development and execution of marine-specific recruitment strategies.
- Actively participate in the selection process for key marine positions, contributing operational insight to candidate assessments and ensuring cultural and technical alignment.
- Work closely with operations and captains to identify top internal talent for promotion and support their career progression through intentional workforce planning.
- 5 years in shipboard marine operations
- Experience developing organizational frameworks, manning plans, or operational deployment strategies
- Strong knowledge of maritime regulations (STCW, flag state, class) and how they intersect with personnel planning
- High proficiency in Excel, Power BI (or similar tools), and planning software such as crew management or work management platforms
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Operations, Nautical Science, or related technical/operational discipline
- Travel required, whether to a vessel, dry-dock or office
- Ability to be on-site at dry docks for the entire period of the work
- Work onboard during periods of limited hotel services within a construction environment
- Acknowledge the on-call nature of maritime and Dry Dock operations, with rare urgent cases requiring immediate support. Our Rules of Engagement ensure responsiveness without fostering an 'always-on' culture.
