JOB SUMMARY:  The Assistant Program Manager (APM) supports and assists the Program Manager while providing a strong daily presence at site. The APM supports a program that reflects The Richmond Neighborhood Center elementary school model of well-structured, low-ratio, place/project-based learning, intentional staff training, and family and student mental health support. The APM collaborates with other on-site after school providers, outside enrichment providers, parents, Parent-Teacher Associations, and school-day staff.  

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

Reports To:  Program Manager

Supports: Youth Program Assistants, Activity Leaders

RESPONSIBILITIES

PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION (35%)

  1. Plans and supports implementation and evaluations of school year and summer programs.
  2. Develops and supports program goals in collaboration with Program Manager around QAP goals and objectives.
  3. Provides coaching and best practices regarding programming and operations to staff. 
  4. In the event of Program Manager’s absence, serves as the administrative contact for principal, regarding collaborations and student/family support.
  5. Works closely with school leadership teams (Academic Heads, Grade Level Heads, Counseling Teams, After School Leadership Team) to ensure smooth service delivery to students.
  6. With prior approval and direct collaboration with the Program Manager and Director, responsible for working with staff to plan, develop, and execute ES curriculum 
  7. Supports the creation of meaningful parent relationships and engagement activities.
  8. Under supervision, serves as direct day to day link to the school faculty and principal for school-wide programming
  9. Under supervision, assists in the development of new programs, while maintaining current 
  10. Supports the registration process.
  11. Provides on-site support to various collaborating agencies and consultants.
  12. Engages in building DEI practices into program/organization: actively participate in our DEI initiatives, such as attending training sessions and/or contributing to an inclusive work culture.
  13. Attends funder (ExCEL or DCYF) monthly meetings. 

DIRECT SERVICE (25%)

  1. Provides direct service at the site to support the ES school year and summer programs.
  2. Provides direct services to students by helping to supervise during key program times (start of program, field trips, serving as a substitute when staff are absent).
  3. Assists with safety and support by being a visible presence on site, overseeing program space (halls, yard, classrooms and cafeteria).  
  4. Supports direct service staff by pulling out individual participants who need additional attention.

STAFF SUPERVISION (30%)

  1. Under supervision, works with direct service staff regarding daily tasks, deadlines, and supervision of staff and youth.
  2. Provides orientation and training to site staff.
  3. Co-supervisor of Youth Program Assistants (YPAs).  Assists with goal-setting and conducts formal monthly check ins.
  4. Co-leads bi-monthly site staff meetings to provide a forum for staff to talk about program issues, student concerns and contribute to program planning and development.
  5. Collaborates with Program Managers and or other Assistant Program Managers to facilitate monthly professional development meetings for all elementary department staff.
  6. Is responsible for subbing in for Activity Leaders when the site is short staffed. 

ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS (10%)

  1. Assumes additional responsibilities as needed.
  2. Attends and participates in regular staff and supervision meetings as needed.
  3. Ensures that monthly attendance for after school program are reported in a timely manner.
  4. Produces all check reimbursements and charge vouchers accurately, legibly and timely. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

Experience

  • At least two years of experience working with children in a school setting
  • At least one year of experience developing curriculum for classes or professional development

Desired Skills and Characteristics:

  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Meeting facilitation skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Proficiency in Chinese, Russian, Vietnamese, or Spanish are a plus
  • Desire to continue learning and growing as an education professional
 

Requirements for All Staff:

Must meet SFUSD Instructional Aide Requirements:  An Associate’s degree or higher OR Official transcripts reflecting 48 college units and a high school diploma/equivalent OR Completion of CBEST and a high school diploma/equivalent.
  • Critical Consciousness: ​Able to weave equity and cultural relevance into all aspects of planned activities. Able to plan and facilitate programming intentionally. Understanding of marginalized communities. Strong advocate for youth voice and leadership. 
  • DOJ Live Scan Fingerprinting: All employees who have contact with youth under the age of 18 must be fingerprinted under procedures established by the DOJ. We cannot employ any individual who has been convicted of a serious or violent felony, as defined by the California Penal Code. The organization also receives updated information from the DOJ during employment. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records on a case by case basis.
  • TB Test: Every employee who has regular contact with youth is required to have a current tuberculin skin test or an X-ray examination of the lungs (with a negative result) prior to reporting for duty.
  • Employment Authorization: Employees must be able to prove that they are authorized to work in the United States using any of the documentation allowed according to current I-9 processes.

PHYSICAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Typical Working Conditions:  School classroom-type environment.

Equipment Used: Computer, telephone, printer, fax.

Essential Physical Tasks: This job requires frequent lifting, pushing and pulling under 10 lbs and occasionally up to 20 lbs.  Because of the use of the computer, this job frequently uses the keyboard which requires repetitive motion and dexterity.  In the course of the job, frequent walking sometimes over uneven and slippery surfaces, and sitting and reaching for periods of time.
