Position Summary
The Prep Cook plays a critical role in maintaining the culinary standards of Great Jones Distilling Co. under the direction of the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef. This position supports the daily operations of the kitchen and back-of-house, ensuring all prep work is executed with consistency, efficiency, and attention to detail. The Prep Cook contributes to all areas of food production, including restaurant service, bar offerings, and private events.
Primary Responsibilities
- Execute all recipes and preparation procedures in accordance with established standards
- Complete daily prep lists efficiently and accurately ahead of service
- Receive, inspect, and properly store all incoming produce, proteins, and supplies in collaboration with the BOH team
- Prepare ingredients for service, including washing, cutting, portioning, and measuring
- Maintain consistency and precision when following recipes and instructions
- Ensure all prep areas, equipment, and shared spaces meet cleanliness and sanitation standards
- Label, organize, and rotate inventory in accordance with food safety guidelines (FIFO)
- Communicate inventory shortages, quality issues, and discrepancies to kitchen leadership promptly
- Support service and assist with additional kitchen duties as needed
- Uphold all health, safety, and company standards at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Key Competencies
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Prep Cook in a fast-paced, high-quality kitchen environment
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
- Attention to detail and commitment to consistency and quality
- Solid understanding of basic knife skills, food preparation techniques, and kitchen safety standards
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow within the culinary team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Capability to lift up to 25 lbs
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
