To be responsible for employee and residential prescriptions for the pharmacy, including billing procedures and monetary transactions. To handle patient contact via telephone and in person in a professional and confidential manner. To provide general organization of the pharmacy department following proper workflow and time management.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills, flexibility, neatness and organizational skills; working knowledge of pharmacy procedures and medical terminology; must possess working knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and other third party insurance protocols and procedures; must be self-directed and motivated to complete daily assigned tasks; ability to work under pressure to meet demands of professional staff and/or patient; good time management skills; physical ability to stand for long periods of time; proficient computer skills; understanding of patient confidentiality. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.
Minimum Qualifications
Pharmacy Aide:
Associates degree; OR a High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years experience working in a medical, pharmacy, DME or related setting. Valid drivers license or equivalent accommodations required.
Pharmacy Technician
Associates degree; OR a High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years experience working in a medical, pharmacy, DME or related setting and possess pharmacy technician certification from a nationally accredited program. NYS recognizes the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Health Career Association (NHA). Valid drivers license or equivalent accommodations required.

Specific Duties
- Assists pharmacist in dispensing of prescriptions in accordance with guidelines issued by New York State Board of Pharmacy for unlicensed pharmacy personnel. These duties include receiving written and electronically transmitted prescriptions, data entry and patient computer file maintenance, typing of prescription labels, retrieving proper medication from stock and returning items to stock in accordance with procedures within the Pharmacy Commitment to Quality Assurance Guidelines.
- To assist patients, in person and via telephone, in courteous and confidential manner.
- Collect the payment for prescriptions and other items and maintaining records as needed. Responsible for daily bank deposit.
- Assists in pharmacy billing procedures, including preparation of Medicaid, Medicare, and other third party payors and private billings.
