Job Summary:
The Elementary School Counselor supports the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development of all students in a PreK�2 campus setting. This role places a strong emphasis on proactive and responsive behavior support, early intervention, and collaboration with staff and families. The counselor implements a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs and contributes to campus data systems, including PEIMS reporting.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Social-Emotional & Behavioral Support
- Provide individual and small group counseling focused on social skills, emotional regulation, and behavior management.
- Design and implement behavior intervention strategies for students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to support Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and/or MTSS frameworks.
- Conduct behavior observations and assist in developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Support crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed.
- Teach classroom guidance lessons on topics such as emotional regulation, kindness, conflict resolution, and coping skills.
2. Early Childhood & Developmental Guidance
- Support developmentally appropriate practices for PreK�2 students.
- Assist in identifying students with social, emotional, or developmental concerns and coordinate interventions.
- Collaborate with special education teams, including participation in ARD meetings as appropriate.
3. Academic Support
- Assist in monitoring student progress and early identification of academic concerns.
- Support teachers in implementing strategies that enhance student engagement and success.
- Promote a positive school climate that supports learning readiness.
4. PEIMS & Data Management
- Accurately input and maintain counseling-related data in the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS).
- Track and document counseling services, interventions, and student support data.
- Assist with compliance reporting related to counseling services.
- Use data to inform decision-making and program effectiveness.
5. Collaboration & Consultation
- Work closely with teachers, administrators, parents, and support staff to address student needs.
- Provide consultation to staff on classroom management and behavior strategies.
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and support strategies.
- Coordinate with outside agencies and community resources when needed.
6. Program Planning & Implementation
- Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with state and district expectations.
- Participate in campus committees and initiatives focused on student success and well-being.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and adhere to ethical and legal standards.
7. Additional Duties
- Support campus initiatives and events that promote student well-being.
- Assist with transition activities for students entering or moving within the school system.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Qualifications:
- Master\'s degree in School Counseling or related field.
- Valid Texas School Counselor Certification.
- Knowledge of the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs.
- Experience working with early childhood/elementary students preferred.
- Strong background in behavior management and intervention strategies.
- Familiarity with PEIMS reporting and documentation requirements.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Working Conditions:

- Occasional lifting, standing, and movement throughout the campus.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with PBIS, MTSS, and trauma-informed practices.
