Position Summary
The School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at the University of Virginia seeks a Data Platform Analyst to join the Data and Platform Services team. Reporting to the Director of Data and Platform Services, this role plays a vital part in connecting stakeholders with data solutions that support strategic and operational decision-making.
The Data Platform Analyst will gather and translate business requirements into technical solutions,buildand maintain ETL pipelines within a Microsoft Fabric environment, and develop Power BI dashboards and semantic models. This position will also support the secure modernization of analytics processes byleveragingAI capabilities available in Microsoft Fabric and other University-approved tools. This role is ideal for a professional who enjoys working across the full analytics lifecycle-from stakeholder engagement through data delivery.
Responsibilities
Partner with faculty, staff, and leadership to understand data and reporting needs
Translate business requirements into technical specifications and scalable data solutions
Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines using Python,PySpark, and Microsoft Fabric
Develop Power BI semantic models, dashboards, and reports for analytics and operational use
Explore and implement AI-assisted analytics capabilities using Microsoft Fabric and approved University tools
Document data processes, transformations, and business logic
Support data quality, governance, security, and compliance initiatives
Collaborate with team members to continuously improve the data platform and expand capabilities
Minimum Qualifications
Education:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, ora related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience:At least4yearsof experience in data analytics, business intelligence, ora relatedfield.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with:
SQL and relational databases
Building ETL processes or data pipelines
Data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms
Python or comparable scripting languages
Gathering and documenting business requirements
Higher education or similarly complex, decentralized environments
Cloud data platforms such as Azure, Databricks, or Snowflake
AI/ML tools or large language model (LLM) applications in analytics environments
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Salary Range
$92,000 - $105,000 annually. Salary will becommensuratewith education and experience.
Position Type & Work Location
This is a full-time,benefitedposition. Work will be performed in Charlottesville, VA with options for a hybrid work schedulein accordance withUniversitypolicy.
