Duties
- Engage with clients using motivational interviewing techniques to foster motivation for recovery and behavioral change
- Share personal recovery stories to inspire hope and demonstrate achievable outcomes
- Provide peer support advocacy, mentoring, and crisis management tailored to individual needs
- Assist clients in navigating behavioral health services, harm reduction strategies, and treatment options
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client information while documenting interactions accurately in electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support personalized recovery plans that address mental health and substance use disorders
- Conduct crisis intervention when necessary, ensuring safety and appropriate referral to emergency services or mental health professionals
Qualifications
- Lived experience with the justice system (minimum of 2 years in prison) coupled with personal recovery from substance use or mental health conditions
- Strong understanding of recovery principles.
- Experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders and diverse cultural backgrounds
- At least 1 year of recovery post incarceration and active in own recovery practices (such as attending meetings, doing step-work, has sponsor, network, etc).
- Proficiency in client communication, mentoring, and social work practices
- Ability to manage crisis situations effectively through crisis management skills and crisis intervention techniques
- Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques and experience sharing personal recovery experiences to motivate others
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation purposes
- Good communicator of both lived experiences and recovery principles
- Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and practicing ethical peer support advocacy
- Have active driver's license with no traffic violations in past 5 years.
