Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced ECAD/PCB Layout Designer to support the design and development of printed circuit boards for electronic products. This is a hands-on contract opportunity for someone who is highly proficient in Siemens/Mentor Expedition and enjoys working in a collaborative engineering environment.
This position is primarily focused on PCB layout and design, with additional responsibilities supporting post-layout documentation and design release activities. The role is initially 100% onsite in Niles, IL to facilitate collaboration with the engineering team, with the possibility of transitioning to a hybrid schedule based on business needs.
Responsibilities
- Create and modify complex printed circuit board (PCB) layouts using Mentor Expedition
- Work closely with electrical and hardware engineers to translate schematics into manufacturable PCB designs
- Ensure PCB layouts meet electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and design rule requirements
- Perform component placement, routing, and optimization for signal integrity and manufacturability
- Incorporate engineering changes and revisions throughout the design cycle
- Generate and maintain PCB fabrication and assembly documentation
- Support post-design processing, including documentation updates and design release packages
- Participate in design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve layout issues
Work Allocation
- 90% PCB Layout & Design
- 10% Post-Design Processing & Documentation
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1-2 years of professional experience using Mentor Expedition
- Experience designing multilayer PCB layouts in a production environment
- Strong understanding of PCB design principles, design rules, and manufacturing considerations
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and engineering documentation
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with engineering teams
- Must be a U.S. Person as defined by U.S. export control regulations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience generating fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing documentation
- Familiarity with engineering change orders (ECOs) and design release processes
- Experience working within cross-functional hardware development teams
