What are the responsibilities and job description for the Member of the Board of Directors / Board Chair position at The Progress XChange?
The Progress XChange is an emerging nonprofit advancing educational access for students in the greater Charlotte area. We are seeking a Board Members and a foundational Board Chair to help shape the next phase of the organization—from strategy to funding to long-term scale.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a true leadership seat at a growth-stage organization and directly influence its trajectory.
What You’ll Do
- Drive performance, accountability, and strategic focus
- Partner with the Executive Director to shape and execute growth strategy
- Lead and support fundraising efforts, donor engagement, and sponsorship development
- Activate your network to unlock capital, partnerships, and visibility
- Establish strong governance practices and board effectiveness
- Help position the organization for sustainable growth and measurable impact
Who You Are
- Nonprofit leadership experience required
- Executive, founder, or senior leader with a track record of building and scaling initiatives
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, partnerships, or revenue generation
- A well-connected operator who can open doors and mobilize resources
- Comfortable in a hands-on, build-stage environment
- Passionate about expanding access and opportunity through education
Commitment
- ~5 hours/month with flexibility based on organizational needs
- Lead 6–8 board meetings annually
- Active leadership in fundraising and strategic initiatives
- Willingness to make a personally meaningful financial contribution
