Project Controls Specialist(Coal Combustion)

Summary:
We are seeking a senior-level Project Controls Specialist to support a portfolio of large-scale capital projects across multiple sites. This role focuses on cost reporting, forecasting, and risk analysis within a complex, multi-project environment. The position is highly analytical and requires strong expertise in project controls, financial analysis, and data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze project cost estimates, including assumptions, basis, and qualifications
- Evaluate project status updates from internal teams and external vendors
- Monitor compliance with internal policies, procedures, and project controls standards
- Perform cost forecasting, variance analysis, and trend analysis across multiple projects
- Support development of project cost impact forecasts and financial projections
- Conduct project risk identification, quantification, and analysis
- Maintain and update cost and risk data within project systems and tools
- Assess contractor and vendor performance, including change order evaluations
- Support cost alignment with project schedules and overall program reporting
- Lead or support complex project controls assignments with minimal oversight
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Project Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 9 years of project controls experience (11 years in lieu of degree)
- Advanced knowledge of cost management, estimating techniques, and project controls methodologies
- Strong experience with cost forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, and risk management
- Proven ability to work on large-scale, multi-million dollar or high-risk projects
- Experience working within a PMO, project controls team, or project-based environment
- Advanced Excel skills and ability to work with large, complex data sets
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Industry certifications such as PMP, CAPM, PMI-SP, or AACE (CCC, PSP, CEP, EVP)
- Experience with vendor change order evaluation
- Proficiency with tools such as MS Project, Business Objects, Prolog, Visio, Access, Maximo, PeopleSoft, or similar
- Experience with risk modeling tools (e.g., Monte Carlo analysis)
- Prior experience in utility, energy, or large infrastructure projects
Additional Details:
- Hybrid schedule (Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week)
- Travel required to project sites across North and South Carolina (~3 days/week)
- Occasional site visits may require standard PPE (provided)
- Personal vehicle required for travel
