Position Overview
We are seeking a Principal Project Controls Specialist – Scheduler to provide advanced scheduling and project controls leadership for a major power generation construction project. This position will serve as a Primavera P6 Subject Matter Expert responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing the integrated project schedule while supporting field execution, change management, forecasting, and project performance reporting.
The ideal candidate will have extensive project controls experience, advanced Primavera P6 expertise, and hands-on field scheduling experience supporting large construction projects. This individual will work closely with project leadership, contractors, vendors, and field teams and will transition to the project site as construction activities progress.
Key Responsibilities
Scheduling & Project Controls
- Lead the development and maintenance of the integrated project schedule
- Establish and analyze project schedule baselines using Primavera P6
- Incorporate engineering, procurement, construction, vendor, and implementation activities into project schedules
- Maintain and update field implementation activities using contractor schedules, field observations, quantity tracking, and project team input
- Perform schedule adherence, variance, trend, and performance analysis
- Track project resources and quantities to support accurate progress measurement
- Develop and support schedule recovery plans when required
- Maintain Work Breakdown Structures and other project controls frameworks
- Support project estimates, forecasting, cost integration, and baseline management
Field Scheduling & Construction Support
- Perform field walkdowns to observe construction progress and validate schedule status
- Track field performance through schedule updates and quantity measurement
- Coordinate directly with contractors and vendors to gather and verify schedule information
- Integrate site activities and identify dependencies that may affect project execution
- Identify schedule constraints, sequencing challenges, and emerging risks
- Provide scheduling support for strategic and emergent project requirements
Change Management & Analysis
- Lead schedule-related change control activities
- Review project change requests and determine potential schedule impacts
- Evaluate vendor change orders and associated time impacts
- Track changes to project scope and incorporate approved changes into project schedules
- Support project risk analysis and quantitative schedule evaluations
- Participate in project reviews and audit activities as required
Reporting & Technical Leadership
- Develop project controls reports, schedule analytics, forecasts, and management presentations
- Collect, validate, and analyze project controls data
- Communicate schedule performance, trends, risks, and forecasts to project leadership
- Lead project controls communications and support project review meetings
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Project Controls and Project Management team members
- Support project controls benchmarking, process improvement, and best-practice initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline
- Minimum 6 years of relevant project controls experience
- 10 years of related experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree
- Strong experience developing and maintaining complex project schedules
- Advanced knowledge of project controls methodologies, scheduling, change control, and forecasting
- Experience coordinating with contractors, vendors, project managers, and field teams
- Ability to independently lead complex project controls and scheduling assignments
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to transition to full-time onsite work in Salisbury, North Carolina
Preferred Qualifications
- Subject Matter Expertise in Primavera P6 field scheduling
- Onsite construction scheduling and field walkdown experience
- Experience developing and maintaining integrated project schedules
- Experience defining and analyzing schedule baselines in P6
- Experience performing schedule adherence and variance analysis
- Experience with Deltek Acumen Fuse or similar schedule analysis software
- Experience developing schedule recovery plans
- Experience evaluating vendor change orders and time impacts
- Experience tracking project resources and quantities using Primavera or similar software
- Experience with risk management tools and Monte Carlo analysis
- Experience with MS Project, Business Objects, Passport, Powerplant, Emax, PeopleSoft, or similar systems
- Previous power generation, utility, EPC, or large industrial construction experience
Candidate Must-Haves

- Advanced Primavera P6 scheduling experience

- Hands-on field scheduling or construction progress tracking experience
