Company Description: The Politics Bar is a U.S.-based talk radio show and podcast that airs weeknights on terrestrial and streaming radio stations, as well as major podcast platforms. Founded and hosted by industry veterans Jody Hamilton and Shawn “Smith” Peirce, the show draws on decades of experience in talk radio, podcasting, film, & television. The Politics Bar offers an engaging space for thoughtful discussions on politics, entertainment, and current events, welcoming differing viewpoints while keeping listeners informed about U.S. and global issues. The team has worked across the full spectrum of political talk radio, bringing deep media expertise and a commitment to lively, informed conversation. Prospective team members can expect a dynamic environment that values curiosity, respectful debate, and a passion for media and politics.

What We're Looking For - & What We Can Provide: If you're an experienced radio/podcast/audio Account Manager/Sales Person, and you need or want a part-time sales gig, but don't want to deal with the big corporate media organizations that keep screwing you over? We might be serving up what you're looking for.

We're a small but growing national political talk radio & podcast show, with a solid base that we've brought from other shows, and built up on our own.

We have some great data from our affiliates and delivery platforms, that matches what we organically know about our audience, and we'll share all of that with you.

For your hard work, you'll earn a 30% commission on all our traditional inventory, with plenty of opportunity for non-traditional revenue too.

What To Expect: This role includes overseeing client accounts from introduction through renewal - in short, you've got all the control of how you get the job done, but you've also got all the responsibility too. If you need help on a project, from copywriting to voice work to whatever, we'll do everything we can to help you succeed for us.

We won't demand you use a specific software platform, or work specific hours either. The goal is for us to deliver the show and the audience, while you match that audience to great businesses who'd like to put their products & services in front of our audience. If you can do that at 2AM in your bathrobe from home, or 2PM in a client meeting from anywhere, we'll be happy - just so long as you get the work done. If you've got an idea that works with the flow of our show, and our audience, and that idea will help us all earn a bit more, we'll likely be on board with it.

Qualifications Desired

  • Client relationship management and account management experience, including experience maintaining and growing advertiser or sponsor accounts.
  • Sales, business development, and negotiation abilities to identify opportunities, craft proposals, and close deals with partners and sponsors.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain media offerings, campaign performance, and value to diverse stakeholders.
  • Organizational, time management, and project coordination skills to handle multiple campaigns, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with radio advertising media, and/or podcasting, including basic understanding of audience metrics.
  • Comfort working around political content - especially left-leaning political content. Our audience is, as we often say, the "broad left" - the roughly 70% of America that isn't MAGA on the political right, or angry socialists on the "Dirtbag Left" (their term). Our friends and guests include everyone from Bruce Bartlett (former domestic & economic policy adviser to Ronald Reagan, often credited/blamed for 'trickle down economics'), Cheri Jacobus (former Republican political strategist & pundit), and Joe Walsh (former Congressman & former MAGA radio host, turned Democratic pundit & podcaster) on the right, to Kat Abughazaleh (former journalist, social media influencer, & liberal Democratic candidate for Congress), Parker Malloy (liberal journalist, writer, pundit, & transgender advocate), and Hal Sparks (liberal stand-up comedian, radio host, professional actor, & advocate) on the left. We also regularly host more than a few famous actors and advocates as guests including Carol Burnett, Mindy Cohn, Martin Sheen, Dawnn Lewis, & Chris Candy. We also regularly promote TV shows and movies. And we have a growing list of political candidates as guests too. In short, we expect professionalism, decorum, and an ability to treat everyone with respect and kindness, no matter how famous or infamous, well-known or unknown they may be. If you're an experienced sales person, this is standard operating procedure for you.
  • It'll also help greatly if you're already familiar with our audience. If you know the kinds of people who listen to shows like the Stephanie Miller Show, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, The Bob Cesca Show, The Daily Beans, Are You F'ng Kidding Me, The John Fugelsang Show, The Dean Obeidallah Show, and other similar radio shows & podcasts, then you'll know the audience that you'll be selling to clients.
  • Comfort with and knowledge of current events helps greatly, and may help us all capitalize on those current events.
  • Proficiency with standard office software; experience with digital advertising platforms is a plus.

Good luck & we hope to hear from you soon.
