POSITION OVERVIEW
The Key Account Manager is responsible for managing and growing strategic customer relationships within the grocery and big-box retail channels. This role serves as a primary point of contact for assigned accounts, driving sales growth, supporting customer programs, and ensuring strong alignment between customer needs and The Plant Company’s operational capabilities.
The ideal candidate has experience managing key accounts within the floriculture industry, preferably with live plants and large retail customers. This individual should be highly organized, analytical, customer-focused, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Account Management & Customer Relations
• Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned key accounts
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships through consistent communication and proactive support
• Support customer retention, satisfaction, and long-term account growth
• Coordinate with internal teams to ensure customer expectations, timelines, and program requirements are met
• Assist in resolving customer issues related to product quality, inventory, logistics, or service
Sales & Business Development
• Support sales growth initiatives within assigned accounts and territories
• Identify opportunities for new programs, product expansion, and increased sales volume
• Assist in the development and execution of customer sales campaigns and promotional programs
• Participate in customer meetings, presentations, and business reviews
• Attend industry events and trade shows to support relationship development and business growth
Data Analysis & Reporting
• Analyze customer sales data, trends, and performance metrics to support business decisions and sales strategies
• Develop reports, presentations, and sales analyses for customers and internal leadership
• Interpret industry and customer data to identify risks, opportunities, and actionable insights
• Maintain accurate customer records, forecasts, and program details
Systems & Process Management
• Utilize customer portals and systems such as Procurant, iTrade, and 1WorldSync
• Coordinate product setup, item maintenance, and customer data requirements within customer systems
• Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Inventory, and Marketing teams to support successful program execution
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
• Strong relationship management and customer service skills
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
• Ability to interpret customer and industry sales data to support strategic decisions and sales initiatives
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Experience working with customer portals such as Procurant, iTrade, and/or 1WorldSync preferred
• Ability and willingness to travel approximately 20% or more, including customer visits and trade shows
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, Horticulture, or related field preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of experience managing key accounts within the floriculture industry preferred
• Experience with live plants strongly preferred
• Experience working with grocery and/or big-box retail customers preferred
• Experience supporting retail sales programs, forecasting, or customer analytics preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to sit, stand, and work on a computer for extended periods
• Ability to travel as needed for customer visits, meetings, and trade shows
• Ability to occasionally lift and transport materials up to 25 pounds
Salary: $80,000-$100,000 DOE
