The Planet Group is currently seeking a Planner/Scheduler for a growing company in the Energy / Heavy Industrial industry. This is one of the first positions in the project controls group at this site, requiring a highly independent candidate with experience managing capital project schedules up to $80M per year. Job Description
As a Planner/Scheduler, you will support project execution and ensure accurate and reliable scheduling for capital projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Build and maintain construction schedules based on project team feedback and contractor estimates.
- Load and maintain resources within the schedule.
- Analyze schedules for proper use of program-level standards, codes, layouts, and reports to ensure data integrity.
- Perform QA/QC on contractor schedule submittals for conformance with contract scope and terms.
- Evaluate critical and near-critical path activity sequences.
- Identify schedule changes and trends, communicating deviations and impacts to the team.
- Ensure activity links are logic-driven and aligned with project deliverables, Project Execution Plan (PEP), Contracting Strategy, and Workforce Planning.
- Update schedule progress according to established processes and procedures.
- Participate in Interactive Planning and Lean Construction Planning Sessions.
- Monitor schedule performance against KPIs and provide updates to management.
- Verify schedule integrity, evaluate logic and float, and maintain overall schedule accuracy.
- Prepare schedule progress reports, trending charts, and schedule analysis; lead progress communications and update meetings.
- Perform schedule analysis, including critical path, milestone deviations, and slippage, and assist in developing recovery plans.
- Support development of project schedule documentation such as Basis of Schedule or Schedule Management Plan.
- Integrate schedule data with cost management for a single source of truth.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project data management.
- Conduct field visits as needed and prepare daily/weekly/monthly progress reports.
- Create and monitor construction reports for stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- 10–12 years of relevant construction and schedule management experience.
- Working knowledge of CPM scheduling concepts and tools such as Primavera P6.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power Apps, and digital tools such as Power BI.
- Experience in Oil & Gas or similar heavy industrial environments preferred.
- Knowledge of stage-gated project execution processes.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with management, coworkers, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated strong decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
