Pay Range: $110,000 – $140,000 DOE
Work Hours :Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (some flexibility)
Primarily 40 hours per week
Travel: Approximately 20% (travel to project sites as needed, including military bases)

Overview
The Planet Group is currently seeking an Electrical Design Supervisor for a growing organization in the electrical utilities and power systems engineering industry. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing electrical design efforts while managing and mentoring a team of designers and drafters. Qualified candidates must have extensive experience with electrical distribution systems and/or substations, strong technical design capabilities, and prior leadership experience.
Job Description
The Electrical Design Supervisor will oversee a team of designers and drafters, assigning work, providing technical guidance, and performing quality control reviews of electrical design packages. This role also contributes directly to design development and coordination for plant electrical systems in compliance with applicable standards and codes.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Develop accurate electrical designs in coordination with engineering staff, adhering to drafting standards, policies, and procedures.
- Prepare plans, elevations, and sections for below-ground and above-ground electrical systems.
- Create and oversee electrical power system drawings, including single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Monitor and manage work performed by designers and drafters to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
- Review and incorporate all project comments and markups into final design documents.
- Perform comprehensive design checks to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and technical requirements.
- Develop complete design and construction drawing packages for substation projects, including general plans, elevations, details, bills of material, and conduit/cable schedules.
- Create bills of materials (BOMs) for electrical system components.
- Attend coordination meetings and communicate with project teams and field personnel.
- Perform field verification of existing facilities as required.
- Interface with customers to provide technical support and integrate design updates.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to team members and support the development of drafting/design standards.
- Exercise independent judgment while supporting multiple projects concurrently.
Requirements
- Associate degree or equivalent in drafting, engineering technology, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of experience (10 years preferred) in electrical system design, specifically distribution systems and/or substations.
- Prior experience as a Team Lead or Design Supervisor strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, Bluebeam, and MS Office.
- Experience with Bentley Substation, AutoDesk Inventor, SDS (Substation Design Suite), Arc-GIS, PLS-CADD, and/or Pole Foreman is a plus.
- Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to lay out equipment and route conduit, cable tray, duct banks, and grounding grids.
- Familiarity with engineering and construction industry standards.
- Ability to mentor and guide team members across projects.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to obtain Military Base Security Access Clearance.
