Summer Camp Counselor (Seasonal) Summer 2026

POSITION SUMMARY

The Summer Camp Group Leader is responsible for supervising and engaging children participating in The Pines Community Center Summer Camp Program. Group Leaders create a safe, fun, and inclusive environment while leading activities, promoting positive behavior, and ensuring the well-being of campers.

Group Leaders serve as role models for campers and work collaboratively with fellow staff to provide a high-quality summer camp experience.

This position is ideal for individuals interested in education, recreation, youth development, childcare, teaching, or related fields.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise and actively engage campers throughout the camp day.
• Plan, organize, and lead age-appropriate games, activities, and enrichment opportunities.
• Participate in all camp activities alongside campers.
• Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all participants.
• Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, and positive behavior.
• Maintain awareness of camper whereabouts and ensure proper supervision at all times.
• Assist with daily camp set-up, clean-up, and organization.
• Ensure compliance with all Pines Community Center policies and procedures.
• Support field trips, special events, and themed camp activities.
• Communicate professionally with parents, staff, and supervisors.
• Report concerns, incidents, injuries, or behavioral issues to supervisory staff.
• Assist with maintaining attendance and activity records as needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work effectively with children in a group setting.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to participate in all camp activities.
• Ability to pass all required background checks.
• 600 or more hours of experience working in a licensed childcare program.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in summer camps, schools, recreation programs, childcare programs, or youth-serving organizations.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification.
• Coursework or degree pursuit in education, recreation, child development, social work, psychology, or a related field.
• Previous leadership experience with youth programs.

SCHEDULE

• Seasonal summer position.
• Camp operating hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Staff schedules will be assigned within camp operating hours and may vary.
• Full-time seasonal employment preferred (approximately 40 hours per week).
• Flexible scheduling may be available based on program needs and candidate availability.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to actively participate in indoor and outdoor camp activities.
• Ability to stand, walk, and supervise children for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
• Ability to participate in recreational activities and field trips.

Salary –

• Hourly Pay $15.50 - $17.00
• Paid Time Off
