Elementary Speech Language Pathologist

Work Location: The Parish School (Private School)

Start Date: 26-27 School Year, New hire in-service starts August 2026.

Description

Provides classroom-based group language therapy including assessment, development and implementation of Therapy Care Plan (TCP) goals. The Elementary SLP plans and provides language-learning strategies, social pragmatic, and executive function skill building lessons during the school day to groups and individual students on their caseload. The therapist works alongside a multidisciplinary team to incorporate therapeutic strategies and curricula that support whole child development, including academic and social emotional domains. All intervention is provided in a nurturing environment through a multisensory learning approach, incorporating nature-based education. With proper training, the SLP may also participate in therapeutic reading intervention in a small group setting.

Responsibilities

  • Administers, scores and interprets standardized and/or non-standardized assessments to provide data for the diagnosis and treatment of speech and language disorders as related to educational, medical, social and psychological factors
  • Develops and assesses treatment goals for each student on their caseload
  • Provides written TCP reports at scheduled times during the academic year
  • Supports students during Arts and Sciences classes
  • Consults and collaborates with the classroom educator in planning instruction to incorporate speech and language development activities into daily schedules
  • Demonstrates understanding and implementation of the 7 Skills of Discipline aligned with the Conscious Discipline approach
  • Works with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement a variety of supports and intervention strategies for each student on their caseload that build skills across developmental areas and promote successful group learning, self-regulation, independence and resilience (Social Emotional Language & Learning (SELLP)).
  • Utilizes a co-teaching model to lead and support a variety of small and large group lessons including language arts, written composition, and math among others
  • Leads group-based language therapy sessions in each class, offering at a minimum of one language strategy lesson, one social learning lesson, as well as ongoing classroom- based intervention through everyday learning opportunities
  • May lead small group reading intervention lessons
  • Communicates regularly with parents and offers guidance about student progress, concerns and learning profile
  • Educates parents about classroom activities and interventions and contributes towards monthly updates, Parish Portal posts, and weekly “Good News”
  • Partners with families to build positive home to school connections
  • Conducts a thorough file review for each student on their caseload prior to beginning therapy or assessment
  • Participates in round table meeting(s)
  • Participates in collaborative committee team meetings, parent conferences, and other team meetings as needed
  • Attends a one evening overnight camp if assigned during the spring semester
  • Fulfills professional development requirements as outlined by the school
  • Maintains student records and professional licensure as required by law, establishment's policy, and administrative regulations
  • Provides counseling and guidance on language development and therapy to parents and other staff members
  • Participates in select committees as needed
  • Fosters a positive work culture

Skills/ Education

  • Must demonstrate leadership, excellent oral and written skills for communication, dependability, innovation, initiative, responsiveness to client needs, interpersonal, teamwork, sound judgment, self-management and adaptability skills.
  • Ability to create a rigorous, well managed, risk-free, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes academic and social excellence for every student.
  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and requisite Texas and ASHA licensure.
  • Experience working with school-aged populations preferred.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office applications
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) and current Texas and ASHA licenses.
