The Distribution Center Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role responsible for running a fast-moving, operational environment and executing daily plans through effective workflow delegation, clear team communication, and associate development. This role supports operational excellence by translating real-time priorities into action, coaching associates on the floor, and ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and on time; even as volume, staffing, and customer needs shift throughout the day.
The Distribution Center Supervisor is expected to spend time focused on leading, coaching, and developing the team. This includes building trust, reinforcing work standards, improving performance consistency, and ensuring all associates are fully trained and operating safely and effectively. This role requires time spent onboarding, skill building, performance coaching, and establishing clear expectations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee Coaching & Development
Oversee the daily coaching and professional development of associates by dedicating the majority of time to floor-based guidance, skill enhancement, and providing constructive performance feedback.
Coach associates on job performance, safety practices, and process adherence, providing timely, actionable feedback to support continuous improvement.
Oversee daily, floor-based coaching on performance, safety, and process adherence; deliver timely, actionable feedback to drive continuous improvement.
Train and onboard new associates, including hands-on skill training and reinforcement of expectations within the job function.
Identify performance gaps early and partner with Managers and HR to support development plans for sustained improvement.
Participate in required training and professional development to strengthen leadership capability and coaching effectiveness.
Serve as a consistent role model for TPS values, reinforcing accountability, professionalism, and engagement through daily interactions.
Communication & Team Leadership
Act as a communication bridge between associates, Supervisors, Managers, and operations leadership to ensure clarity, alignment, and follow-through.
Communicate daily priorities, expectations, and operational updates clearly and consistently.
Represent the department in building meetings as needed.
Collaborate with other department leaders to share resources, discuss issues, and ensure cross-department alignment.
Operational Support & Execution (Enablement of Coaching)
Support daily department operations (receiving, replenishment, order fulfillment, shipping preparation, inventory-related tasks) to ensure teams can execute effectively.
Delegate work to associates to balance workloads, support development, and meet productivity, accuracy, and service level commitments.
Monitor workflow progress in real time and re-prioritize/adjust assignments as needed to align with volume and staffing.
Ensure adherence to TPS policies, procedures, and operational standards.
Recommend process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service.
Safety, Standards & Facility Responsibility
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Actively identify safety concerns and address or escalate issues promptly.
Support building opening and closing procedures and safeguard company assets as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
2-4 years of supervisory or lead experience in a warehouse or distribution environment.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, change-driven environment and making frequent priority shifts based on volume, staffing, and customer needs.
Demonstrated ability to coach and lead teams through a hands-on leadership style, staying visible and engaged on the floor, openly communicating in standup events, addressing issues in the moment, and keeping teams focused during high-volume periods.
Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
Ability to communicate effectively in English for job related purposes, including coaching, providing safety instructions, and participating in operational meetings.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and warehouse management systems.
Experience operating material handling equipment (forklift, pallet jacks).
Flexibility to work varied shifts and weekends as business needs require.
Commitment to teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 75 lbs.
Ability to climb ladders.
